Mid Life Crisis version 2.0
Getting older doesn't have to be a bad thing.

If that is the definition of crisis, may more befall upon you.
Hope it helps you overcome your crisis albeit gradually.
Love the car and the color.

Not mine. A friend who is trying to recapture youth or something like it.

A mount is dead. Will get the L5 converter and then start with an a6600. My A mount lenses will live forever. This should happen later this year or early 2022.

Re: Mid Life Crisis version 2.0
Interesting always liked red cars. A99 has a nice output I am fond of it
With the E mount APS-C I might be temped to have a try before buy the shape/design takes some getting used to, but it depends what lenses you have
It's a shame the LAEA5 isn't working on more bodies, the options are quite limited and don't seem to be growing
I could throw a curve ball here, L mount or Nikon Z ;-D

Re: Mid Life Crisis version 2.0
I don't think I am ready to give up A mount though I have on occasion looked at getting started on an E mount.
I am already at 31K+ clicks on my a99M2 and I will probably let it go as long as it can. I am certainly open to other
options if they end up to be disruptive solutions.

Re: Mid Life Crisis version 2.0
Comes down to the adapter solutions, which are a mixed bag. The LAEA4 doesn't entirely convince me, it's usable if a bit bulky acceptable but of course it is dated. Even compared to the A77/99 (both have many more cross points) and the 77ii and 99ii have tons more. Maybe it doesn't matter for some types of shooting I can make it work sort of. But you come back to the native performance is better issue. Had Sony updated it to the 79 point AF even with the SLT mirror (chop down size a little) - I think it would be much more appealing.
The LAEA5 has so little support for screw drive lenses, and you're limited to just 2 full frame bodies both of which are expensive. I think we can forget the A1 entirely, that sort of money is crazy land. A7RIV more pixels than I would want/need it's an option for some. Once you get into A6600 prices really we can buy full frame cameras for that - that kinda kills the appeal there. It doesn't look like Sony are particularly fussed about doing more firmware updates. It's not the "A mount ended" thing that I think bothers people, it's the "questionable adapter" offerings. It's just way less than what I would expect.
LAEA5 working on many more bodies, would reduce the angst. It would be fine on the A7iii most would accept that, but nope you're stuck with the LAEA4 for that body. A newer version A7IV will probably cost far more. Who knows if that will work with it (A7C does not nor A7Siii both newer than A7RIV)
I can understand how the situation leaves some users with a sour taste and mixed feelings about Sony and how they have handled this. With that in mind I am not shocked that some people will eventually wander off to other makers- I still consider it myself. Do I want to invest more money into a company who doesn't seem overly tuned into their previous customers needs? It's a tough one, lot of nice lenses many of us have, and used can extend the lifespan no question about it, just sometimes doesn't feel very comfortable with Sony for reasons noted above.

Re: Mid Life Crisis version 2.0
I bought 3 lenses in as many years. All three in last 12 months. I don't think I need more lenses but do I want more?

Re: Mid Life Crisis version 2.0
I have way too many lenses more than I should have, and I have APS-C and Full frame which is perhaps not optimal
I have thought about offloading the APS-C stuff, and perhaps just keep one crop body. Funds from that would secure another FF body easily
Some of the vintage FF lenses are worth little (beercan, 100-200mm, 50mm F1.7, 35-70mm F4, 28-85mm, various kit ones 28-100mm, 75-300mm)
That is why I didn't bother selling them. Do I have 19/20 lenses? Something like that!
You will never have enough I have way too much yet there is always something else? Longer tele lens, something more specialist
That is why I ponder at times a clean sweep could be refreshing

Re: Mid Life Crisis version 2.0
Barry,
True about clean sweep and starting anew. I have about 20 odd lenses in old MD, M42 and T2 mount. And about 15 or so in MA mount.
I used shoot quite extensively with older lenses in my early days of photography and now I seldom use them. They make good paper weight and
unfortunately these days most people don't even know what a paper weight is, or use sheaf of paper while a fan is running.
