It has made me think of the gigantic, powerful and almost boundless, ‘whitmanian’ American landscapes as opposed to the long ago orderly humanized rural European landscapes (“In limitations he first shows himself the master, // And the law can only bring us freedom”, Goethe). I am looking forward to seeing your ‘limitless’ 360º VR landscapes! I am sure they will be impressive (and intriguing…).

Interesting comparison -- especially since the next panorama I had in mind to post was European. It's not at all rural, but arguably not completely orderly either (or at least seems a but disorderly to somebody who grew up in a small town where essentially every street was perfectly straight and ran precisely north/south or east/west). One thing I do miss is really beautiful sunsets -- from there, the sun is still too high in the sky for much color when it suddenly disappears behind the mountains (there was no such problem where I grew up in eastern South Dakota -- my tabletop isn't as flat).

Jerry, it seems you have a definite style: Once again a pano with a ‘cropped’ foreground and ‘open’ sides (no lateral ‘repoussoirs’ at all). I think Jacob van Ruysdael painted some panoramas in this style… Thanks for posting.

Okay, I've posted a considerably larger version of the panorama of Palo Duro canyon on Flickr:

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3158/306 ... 309a_o.jpg

This is still sized down quite a bit (just over half the original dimensions, plus some JPEG compression to reduce real resolution even further), but I think it gives a lot more of the feel of the place.

[Edit: after figuring out a bit more about Flickr, I've uploaded a version that's about 90% of original size and updated the URL to suit. Unfortunately, Ps won't produce a JPEG at full resolution, and even if it could I'd have to do lossier compression to fit Flickr's limits anyway...]
