I've posted this on the Konica Minolta forum on dpreview, and have received two replies.
I bought the above lens, about 6 weeks ago,to use with my Minolta 7D. Love the IQ and colour, but I sometimes get a message on the monitor saying " Lens not attached" or similar.
"Evil one" suggests that this is not uncommon with this lens and says it could be a quality control issue at Sony. Before I contact Sony Europe, I wondered whether other forum users have had this problem and what advice is on offer, in particular from DK.
Thanks.

Re: 18-250SAL and 7D problem. Help.
Clean the contacts, but ours works on the 7D - if the problem is intermittent it is more likely the 7D lens mount needs its screws tightening lightly with a crosshead engineering screwdriver, and the contact array wiping over with contact cleaner. The lens is not likely to be misaligned or dirty, but the camera might be.
