Two forum mechanics queries

I have two "annoyances" when I read this forum. Both of these are different on other phpBB forums, so I am guessing that these are settings controlled by the administrator.

1) I'm used to the standard that when you click a link to a non-forum site a new browser window opens. On this forum, it opens in the current window. If you then want to go back to the topic, and you have clicked multiple links in the non-forum site, you have to keep clicking back.

2) I have a persistent login problem, in that the system never keeps me logged in automatically. I've tried deleting the forum cookies, and resetting the login, but nothing helps. I have to login each time I visit the forum.

Not sure if anything can or should be done about these, or whether the second one is only me. I have switched computers in the last few months twice, once due to a drive C failure, and I have always had this issue.

I had that problem and I think I have found the reason.
If you are logging in from 2 different computers you might encounter the problem of logging. So, all you have to do is mention on one computer "to remember me on this computer" and not on the other.
As for the links, I use Firefox 3.0.5 and I have no problems with that, external links always open in a new tab.

As for the links, I use Firefox 3.0.5 and I have no problems with that, external links always open in a new tab.

I only ever use a single computer, and I'm also using Firefox 3.0.5. It's weird that we have different behaviours!

As far as the logging in, if the two-computer issue is correct, it would mean that David's server is storing information, and possibly my profile is corrupt on the server, as it thinks I am logged in via another computer. I could create a new profile to try it out.

But, as regards the links in a new window, that is VERY strange, as I have links opening in a new window in many other phpBB forums such as Bibble.

I've never had that login problem since WIn98 and that was a corrupt windows password cache that caused that. and external links always open in a new window for me on IE 6 and IE7

After Dr. Harout's reply, I took a look at my tab settings in Firefox, and there's one that seems to fix the problem. I still have to check, though, whether it will not open a new window when it shouldn't.
It's still a bit of a concern that other forums have not had these issues, but perhaps it's an obscure minor setting in the forum software that's making the difference.

I Googled the login issue, and there seems to be an issue on some workstations with the phpBB login error I have.

I always set external links to 'open in a new window' but sometimes if the link is to Photoclubalpha article, I will let it open in the same window.

FWIW, and as a user of Windows Vista and IE7, I alway right click on a link and choose to open in a new tab. That way I don't lose sight of the first page and secondly I can easily switch between the two to compare etc.

I have the same requirement, but it seems to be working now, and it's much quicker than right-clicking.
I use a Firefox add-on called Tab Mix Plus. It has a myriad of settings, but it enables me to use tabs the way I like. In this particular case, I needed a setting that no other forum sites required, but it works well now.
I have the same issue with normal web browsing as well, in that when I open a web page, I usually don't want to overwrite the current page, which is the default behaviour in Firefox and Internet Explorer. With Tab Mix Plus, I can enter a web address or click a bookmark, without opening a new tab, and the system opens a new tab automatically and leaves the old one in place.

I've noticed that with any tabbed browsers the non-forum sites will open in a new tab, but in non-tabbed browsers those same links open in the same window.
