So far I think Olaf is winning the challenge - very subtle and clever montage, and good photo quality. Pako is way out and has posted two images, which is against the challenge rules, so I am deleting one of them. I felt the second one did come close to working OK with the title, but I also think the subject has to be taken more literally - the idea of looking for actual wheels, or circles, is better.

Now let me remind you there are stars out there which make a perfect wheel of the heavens if you can do a long enough exposure, and also that a camera can be rotated round the lens axis turning the entire image into a wheel effect. There are fairgrounds where lights on wheels or rides create the circles.

One of my favourite pictures (I can't find it anywhere to post, and it would be a copyright infringement) was by Monte Zucker, showing a couple (wedding) in the middle of the dance floor, standing still, while guest couples waltz round them during a time exposure. They seem to be frozen in their dance while a vortex of guests whirls round them, each dancing couple forming their own swirl of movement. I believe Monte designed this shot, and did it many times, using a balcony viewpoint to look down on dancefloors, and instructing the wedding couple to pose and remain still - and even choreographing the guests. Others have tried to imitate it, but never as well.

Happy New year to all.
Had to think about this one, so hope this fits the specifications. The photo is of some old machinery found in a salt lake in South Australia-Yorke Peninsula. The machinery was used to dig or mine gypsum which was used to make plaster. Where there is gypsum, there's salt and as we know salt is not too good with metals, hence most of the machinery has disappeared due to corrosion. The link? The machinery that served to mine the gypsum has fallen victim to the environment. Also the refelction completes the wheel. Hope that suits the challenge.

The connection is vague for this one...it's "wheels" but it is also meta-photography--that is, photography of or within photography (the little girls are shooting with their cell-phones). Processed in Photoshop 6.0 from in-camera jpg, grayscale, standard sharpening filter, crop to 16x9, resize for web.

Great looking cars there Kevin. The first car would have to be red and white?? Imagine the original owners of the vehicles surprise, knowing that their cars could be photographed by a phone!

Paul, I will be forced to remove your photo, because as you will know, photography within 300 yards of the London Eye is illegal under London Eye Law :-) They normally manage to spot DSLRs and move people off pretty smartly. Congratulations for getting in close without getting your collar felt by the Eye Police.

Sorry, another London Eye photo.

Image

edit: I just read the rules at the top and realized I didn't provide the requested info. Here it is:

Minolta Alpha 707si, Minolta 100-300mm f4.5-5.6i (or maybe it was the 35-105mm f3.5-4.5i), ISO 400 (I think) color negative film, scanned with Minolta Scan Elite, converted to B&W. I hope that since this is a film image that's okay.

It was pretty late in the day in 2001 and I remember that I was walking along and I noticed how the ferris wheel and Big Ben were lining up. Then I saw the airliner in the sky and knew if I ran I could get it lined up too. I think I ran about 100 yards with my camera to get into position and just barely made it while the airliner was within the wheel.

I won't remove it, but I declare Henry the winner of the London Eye bout as his shot includes Big Ben/the clock, and therefore has loads of wheels, gears and other stuff within the big wheel!

I dug through the archives and found one that I made work. The pulleys, flywheel cover and even exhaust pipes, placed between the drive wheels, satisfies the challenge. Had I been taking it for the challenge, I would have been directly behind and lower.

Having just bought my A350, and going to Denver for a week to work, I of course brought it along. A coworker and I had just come back from shooting at Red Rocks when we saw a local burger joint having an evening car show.

What looks like a VW Bug sans motor cover is actually that back half of a motor-trike.

Originally shot in JPEG, not RAW, I cropped it in PhotoScape and slightly adjusted the exposure, then used IfranView's Swap Colors tool to change the RBG to GRB, turning a light blue vehicle to purple. and the ignition components from red to green. I fell it has more "pop" with this color scheme.

A350, 1/160 sec, F5.0, ISO 100, 18-70 kit lens at 22mm.

Wow, thank you! I want to take this opportunity to thank all the little people who helped me along the way. :)

Hey, Murph, I really like that second photo of the Eye you posted!

Gongrats Henry, a true wheels whitin wheels.

Btw I did not attend, hoped the challenge would be open a little longer. But no worries, a true winner we got in Henry.

After I said in my first post that I did not understand quite well enough I did some googeling and I found that the "Wheels whitin Wheels" Could be from the Bible as you can read here http://www.gracecathedral.org/enrichmen ... 0606.shtml" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I didn't interpret David's remarks as meaning the challenge was over. Unless he says not to I say go ahead and post a photo!
