Back when I was using a Canon 30D I would read a lot of the posts in the Canon forums. There were fairly regular reports of Canon IS failures. I recall that later in the Sony forum when I mentioned this one or two Canon users claimed I was lying so I went back and quickly found several threads about IS failures and posted the links. My recollection is that the Canon users quietly slunk off without apologizing. Any mechanical device can and will fail eventually.
