Tamron 300mm MF 2.8 on A900 visits Jazz Concert !

For who has the chance to take hand on a Tamron 300mm Adaptall F/2.8, don't think too long and buy it .

This old lens is able to bring very good result on Alpha Body.

Yesterday was my second experience of Show photo. I was not in safary low light photography as usual, but there was not so much light in some place on the stage. A good example of the Sony Technology of SSS combine with an 25 years old lens manual focus (with confirm focus adapter) on Full frame body A900 :

- more than 100 feet from the subject, handled on the mezzanine between people, F/2.8 300mm ISO 3200 , 1/20s (yes at 300mm ...) , result :

And this is not luck ... because i have shot almost 5 pictures in line (thanks to the 5 fps) and this is another one of the serie:


I'm personally very impress by the result.

This is the complete gallery. http://www.pbase.com/nadeauf/pappyhourband2 Most of the shot took with the 85mm 1.4 D. When you see 50mm F/1.7, those are pictures taken with the 300mm F/2.8 (confirm focus adapter M42 completed with M42 to Adaptall adapter).

In other hand I'm starting to learn how to deal with Noise / A900 and lightroom, so I'm sure anybody are able to have better result than me working with the picture. But for now, I need quick and fast process, because i cannot take 1h by picture .

This one is not so bad too :

Crop from original -> 1/80s, ISO 3200, 300mm F/2.8 . (the focus is confirm anytime by the camera, because I'm wearing glasses and I'm -5 both eyes).

I'm personally very impress by the result.

I am also impressed with the apparent sharpness of the image. Were you using one of the M42 adapters that reports the lens focal length to the camera, or just a focus confirmation adapter?

I have read claims that the camera uses the lens focal length as part of the control logic for the SSS, but I do not know if this is true, which is the reason for my question.

I'm using a Adaptall to M42 mount + M42 to Minolta Alpha with confirm focus chip.

Some one said that the camera is trying to evaluate the focal length of the lens to evaluate the correct vibration compensation. But even with the information of 50mm on the 300mm the Sony Body looks like to do a good job. I will say that is not really the Focal length that the Sony body will need to do the correction, but more the Focus distance (that is only available on D lens ... ). In my mind, i only see that the camera need to know the G measurement of the stress sensor and trying to compensate it.
