Scotland this winter

This is Loch Leven in Fife, a large bird sanctuary and fishing loch. I have not seen snow and ice on it for many years and it was looking gorgeous on my way home at dusk. I don't think my photo really does it justice. A900 24-70ZA Grad filter.

Wonderful David!

Never seen anything like this spectacular, special scene. Snow and ice surely emulates an excellent modern blue painting in the second one. These small forum-size photos hardly do any justice to them, they would look fantastic printed on very large papers.

Congratulations and thanks for sharing. Scotland has a magical atmosphere... and makes the use of A900 in excellence. Maybe I should just go and get my pair of A900 and CZ 24-70mm and end my what-to-purchase agony forever!

Here is another telephoto shot across the Loch towards a very distant windfarm after Sunset. Very odd hues on the ice on the loch and lots of atmospheric mirage across the cold air.

Nice shot but those ugly wind farms spoil it for me.
Mind you those turbines can have a look all of there own when up close.

It is getting harder and harder to avoid windfarms in Scotland.

Lovely shots, all! I really like the variety of colors and textures that are otherwise very uncommon to landscape photos. The windmills aren't bad, but their most detrimental effect is that they obliterate the mystery of scale in a landscape photo. The world starts to feel smaller.

Lovely pictures David. I really like the second one, the ice detail shot. The colours and shapes are fascinating.

I only live a few miles away from Loch Leven but I've never seen it like that!

I headed up to the Cairngorms for a few days last week and haven't seen snow like it for years. This was from my van door at first light.

Hi Davie, Thanks for the comments on the photos and your photo with the trees to add real scale to the scene.
I met another photographer by the Lochside, he was using my tripod marks It was hard to get a place to park near there, as everyone wanted to pull over to take shots of the ice.

I had heard that the highlands were amazing, unfortunately did not get up there at all, however plenty of local interest with the frozen Lochs.

I agree, the size of the trees reflect on the scale of the actual grandure of the landscape. It's almost intimidating with this barenness.

The last shot is beautiful as well. I actually saved to my 'exceptional photos' folder because it's such a unique sighting and a very rare natural formation and for inspration of course. I hope you don't mind.
