Manual Focus Lenses for a700

Found a lot of about 25 manual focus lenses for Minolta. There is some very nice glass in this lot. Price is very cheap. Is it worth getting them for my a700?
Here is a quick list that I made.

Anyone here use them on AF cameras? Opinions?

If these are the old MC/MD mount lenses, which they appear to be by your description, they will NOT work without an adapter.

Exactly why posted this, I am not sure of the mount yet, but ill definatly take the 700 to check the fit. Thanks for the info!

Buy them - the mm figures given are filter thread fittings, and the MC is multicoated. The vendor has read the front rim of each lens and has no idea what they are. If it's cheap, just buy the lot. They include at least one AF lens.

One my experience with old MF lens ... and the kind of lens listed here ... almost 80% of the stock is really not good.

Only the 24mm Minolta can be good, but it is not a AF lens and you will have to removed the back lens and fit it a A mount back lens to it. Other lens are more doggie-doo and will make you deal with very big flare problem on the Digital camera.

Even for reselling, there is no big value.

The lot also includes three 35 mm cameras, i figure ill buy the lot and donate what I dont want to a local school.

I have a non-AF confirm type and really, it wasn't worth buying. I have AF confirm M42 lens adaptors (with no glass element in them) and they work well.

So nothing for MC/MD to alpha mount then, apart from a rebuild?

Almost. I guess if you got a good 1.2X converter and had the 200mm f2.8 MD, it would make a nice 240mm f/3.2 or whatever. But most lenses don't go well with the 1.2X glass. My 200mm f/4.5 MC and 28mm f/2.8 MD, for example.

Could you explain this a bit to me please. I've been looking through ebay I found several adaptors.

*M42 to Minolta AF that confirms focus:

Both almost looked the same, a metal flange, could you tell me what's the main difference?

Coz I've been wanting to get a lens that I can use for low light shooting. I've been looking at Minolta AF lenses, 50mm's, but the cost. So I'm thinking of a way so I can go over the cost by using an "older" lens md/mc/m42 and an adapter which will still give me about 50mm FL. I dont know what choices I have yet. So I'm still trying to look at things.

The ones which confirm focus have five contacts and a chip. The ones which don't confirm focus have no contacts. Basically, the chipped ones tell the camera there is a lens present.

I'm fairly happy with my MC/MD lenses attached to my 7D. Yes, you need to adjust the menu settings and it's a bit of a pain setting the aperture (for aperture priority) and without a split-screen manual fucus can be a bit hit and miss........
This with a 50mm f3.5 macro without the 1:1 tube.

This with the 500mm f8 cat - d*mn right! I couldn't hand-hold it steady....

And to be honest, I think I'd like to buy Minolta/Sony AF replacements.............
