Anyone like pretty butterflies ?

This poor chap (male birdwing) was lying on the concrete in the carpark at work ,damaged and although sick was still alive and could even fly a short distance, (I think it fell out of someones grille/radiator), I took it home of course but it died overnight.

Butterflies are very very photogenic. I love them a lot. Even I try to plant such flowers climbers or the like which attract much of them.

Thanks mate, when I clicked your links I remembered seeing those when I browsed through your photo collection the other day,I agree that is a very attractive butterfly and lovely photographs (I know only too well how hard they are to get when they are alive), perhaps one of the swallowtails? (I'm not an expert on butterflies though) I would much rather have photographed mine alive as well but when they are at full speed "au natuaral" they never seem to land, the males that is, the females do but they are completely different, (bigger and black, with yellow and orange spots) the male is actually a bright "metallic" yellow/green (the camera doesn't quite capture it) and when they flit around the garden it's like electric green flashes...absolutely riveting, and yes I too grow the particular plant that it likes so I often see them, and when one appears I look on in a sort of trance.

Lot's of people around here grow the special plant they like, but even so they are not very plentiful, there's a tree nesting tropical ant that likes too eat the caterpillars when they are small, and also birds (even the honeyeaters) hunt the caterpillars during the nesting period to feed their young (high protein diet makes the young grow fast), so it's a tragedy when one dies from being hit by a car.
