Re: 50mm f1.8 DT sample shots.
Looks like it won't be of much interest for wide-open performance then. The aberration halo at f/2 is about the same as the Sigma 50mm f/1.4 HSM at f/1.4 - and that disappears at f/1.6.
But then, it is not targeted at the same market, it's tiny and costs 1/3rd of the price. But it is not sharper than the 50mm f/1.7 or f/1.4, so existing owners do not need to 'sidegrade'.

Re: 50mm f1.8 DT sample shots.
another poor test... let's wait for somebody doing real work with this lens before we can say anything about it. Won't be me, I think APS primes is a good thing, but I won't buy one. DK is right, if you already have the 50mm f1.7 or 1.4, no reason to get this one (unless each gram really count on your bag)

Well I never saw the point of APS primes "unless" they are priced at very good levels.
This will probably hit the shops £140 odd, if not a bit more. For that, APS has not saved anything on price. I predict people will still buy the 1.7 in droves on ebay.
If this was bashing out at £80-90 odd (Canon levels), then it might do pretty well. Oh the Canon is FF too. This APS= Cheaper argument does not seem very strong to me!

The DT 50mm f1.8 is actually physically larger than the 50mm f1.4 standard lens even though it has a filter dia of 49mm compared too 55mm, due to the SAM no doubt, but it is lighter, surprisingly, 170g versus 220g for the FF 50mm.
