Here are two pictures of one of the most fameous wine factory of Armenia where I have an access. I should say that it is a really nice wine which name is "Areni", there is an Areni village and kind of grape which name is Areni and the factroy is located in that village..

The third pic describes vodka making process which is really nice to observe and after to try of course

What is the man doing in the last photo? A part of the distillation process?

I am not sure whether the word is right but it is the process when you put the raw material for vodka, some fruits etc. you boil it and from another side you receive the vodka, and one can do this several times to obtain different alcohol percentage!!

You're right, he actually is boiling a mash of starchy fruits to obtain the alcohol and is actually trying to keep the fire alive by feeding it with wood.

Btw, these are some impressive barrels! There just few places left in this world where real quality barrels are produced, from good wood, smoked, and all that stuff. Never stumbled accross Armenian wine, though. Closest I had is some turkish wine from Elazig Gökyüzü or Kavakildere or so... But it seems I'am sworn in on French wine, or sometimes a Chianti Classico - Gone are the times where I could afford a Brunello di Montalcino Don't even like the german red any more, though the white ones are pretty good (Riesling, Silvaner etc) Don't like french white wine, Chablis or so - brrrrrr.

Now I leave it to David,Olaf and Birma to comment on the vodka, distillation process, single malts and that high-grade stuff. Didn't have any for 10 years or so, but might buy a bottle when my wife goes on holiday (well we go together but she'll stay some time with her parents!).

Bossel, honestly, I admire your precise spelling of the Turkish language and savviness of the country in general.
Nowadays, there are a couple of new wine brands that could use your tasting to get an idea and update your palate of wine.

Heeeey if you need some information about home made vodka welcome to Armenia..
Here everybody wh has some trees of fruit and even who hasn't makes vodka himself at his house , really it ius very very widespread, even in Yerevan when I am living many many guys are making vodka and wine, and believe me most part of these guys are making very nice vodkas, and from my experience I would say home made vodkas 100 times better than manufactured ones because after these one hasn't any headache of course if everything was OK with process. Especially mulberry's vodka is very very famous which has many many healing properties, and Armenians make it a lot and very nice

Nowadays, there are a couple of new wine brands that could use your tasting ...

Flying to Izmir next Sunday for 10 days, but planning to spend 5 days or so in Bodrum (though we didn't book a hotel till now, any recommandations?). Will probably stay away from rakı and distilled things , but a nice turkish wine would be welcome! Or a chilled Efes Şerefe!

OK Bossel if Doc. approves and the customs allows no problem I will send you a few gallons of mulberry aragh (vodka in armenian ) and you will be finally healed without any residual pains

Wow, that's great Bossel!
The weather is peerrrrrfect on the coastal regions right now; not the hottest but definitely for swimming and spending time outdoors. Bodrum should be at its sweetest all round but the school term is over and being a popular spot it may be a little crowded. I can't recommend any hotels personally because I only stayed at the house of a friend's when I spent time there and Bodrum can be far too hot for me at times. So, I like passing through but not staying long.

I hope you can book some rooms early on, in case of no vacancy at the places you'd rather stay.
