is dyxum the best alpha forum?

I like Dyxum. My only problem is there are too many forums (making it hard to find the right spot o post) and the forum software is a bit of a pain.

I browse it, but have never joined.

It's a good place and some handy info. But the navigation could be better

I suspect there is an "age thing" here. May be wrong but, reading the posts, Dyxum seems to be populated by young price conscious people whereas this forum is generally rather older (apologies to the younger and clearly discerning members ) less price conscious people. Personally, I much prefer this one although it seems to me that there is only a relatively small core of contributors, which is a pity.

I think Dyxum is very handy as a reference/research tool, but I've never been all that impressed with the layout of the forums, I have difficulty deciding who is responding too who and sometimes the timeline looks jumbled...maybe it's just a matter of getting used to it I guess.

Its a nice place, very populated and often the posters are nice people so there is a nice atmosphere. But I like this place also, even if it can get a bit quiet from time to time.

When I took to photography as a reasonably serious hobby three years or so ago I stumbled on Dyxum and gained a lot from it and contributed a bit too.

It is larger than here and competitions are a major feature, as well as it's kit databases of questionable accuracy.

But when I discovered Photoclubalpha I preferred it here as it seemed more like belonging to a local photography club, and the Photoworld publications are a real bonus.

And then it went a bit sour and I wandered away for a while and browsed Dyxum again which allowed me to revised my comparisons of the two (and yes I do know there are other alpha based sights).

I think David did a good job of trying to restore order without reacting in the way I would perhaps have done. So long as respect remains at the forefront of everyone's contributions this will continue to be the best alpha forum for me.
