Great firework shots there Don, there is a couple of US warships in the Harbour here at the moment for some big exercise/war games, they would have missed the 4th July celebs in America...maybe we should have organized a fireworks show for them....

Don, you have some really nice fireworks photos. I have only shot fireworks a couple of times and here is one from the most recent time (Independence Day 2008):



I didn't take a tripod so for this one I used ISO 200, f11, and 2 seconds. I intentionally shook the camera during exposure to try and get some interesting light trails. Some other photos I used even longer shutter speeds. I decided I liked this one in B&W better than color.

Anyone else with some fireworks photos? Even if they weren't from this past weekend.

I have a couple but they're shockers I'd had a couple of sherbets at the time and I thought instead of driving (probably not over the limit but you never know) down to the strand I'd climb up on the roof and shoot em from there (about half a K away) and see how they turn out....now I know....next time (memo to self)...go down to the foreshore right where it's all happening.

I assume a sherbet is an alcoholic drink? Here in the States it is something a bit like ice cream. I checked online and didn't find any definition of sherbet being a drink with alcohol. Can you explain what it is you had a couple of?

I swim there everyday! Many times I see one or more honu (Hawaiian Sea Turtle) in the water with me. Usually only 2-4 meters away they will come to the surface and stick their head out of the water. Occasionally one will surface within a meter of me. One time one surfaced and stuck his head out of the water only half a meter in front of my face and it really startled me. I almost ran right into him. The honu are often about a meter long and their heads are as big as a football (American football ).

It's an OZ (and in the UK as well I think) slang term for a beer, currently Carlton Midstrength, but sometimes I get XXXX Gold, it's a wonder that your OZ mate didn't clue you in on some slang terms a bit better Henry...he's slipped up a little there.

Greg, I will have to ask him about sherbet. I never heard it before. I know there are no girly-men in Australia so I figured you couldn't have meant you had a couple of cold, creamy desserts.
