Can I simply send a 70200G to a foreign Sony service center?

Unread post by lock »

The problem is that Sony Netherlands refuses to send it a factory in Gödöllö to get it adjusted. They only want to do some body based adjustments. But they failed twice already and they also said their options were limited, and they do not repair lenses themselves.

So, does anyone know if I can simply send it to service center to have it fixed ? I don't mind sending it to the States if I need to. I just want to get it fixed.

I don't know about Sony, but Canon in Japan treats their customers very well -- even if the gear was bought outside Japan. You might find out if you can send it to Japan for service. Here are a couple of my experiences with the Canon service center.

A couple of years ago while in Tokyo I stopped by the Canon service center in Shinjuku to have them clean my 30D sensor -- camera was out of warranty. They told me it would be ready in 45 minutes so I just went outside and took a short walk. Came back and it was in great shape and it was all free. They did it right the first time, didn't lose any parts, and were very friendly and courteous the whole time. I also stopped by there one time with a question about the lowly A540 digicam I had then because I couldn't figure out how to set something. Fortunately, my Japanese was good enough that I could explain what I wanted to do and show him in the menu how no matter how I had it set I couldn't get it to do what I wanted. He took it in the back and consulted with someone and came back in a few minutes and showed me how to do it.

Here is the form to send e-mail:

https://cgi.sonydrive.jp/form/inq/cic/cic-all.html

The form may be a bit difficult, but I can probably help you if you want to give it a try.

Telephone number and FAX number:

TEL 0466-31-2531

FAX 0466-31-2595

A FAX in clear English would also be worth a try.
