A photo challenge starting January 5th 2009. One image only, normal size restrictions apply (1000 pixel maximum width or height recommended - if vertical we suggest 700 pixels maximum width). No followup images (comparisons) except by those who have not already posted their one image. Discussion welcome - please only repeat images in discussion posts if absolutely essential. Aster has been appointed moderator of this forum in recognition of her commitment to making it great fun. This does not prevent others from setting challenges!

Participants should provide basic camera data (body, lens, ISO, mode, exposure over-ride or WB settings), and details of raw processing and subsequent PP.
I believe it’s a good idea to start new challenges before the time duration for submissions for the previous ones expire. This way, we’ll enjoy significantly more photos with varied subjects and concepts, hopefully...
Feeling the rythm and hearing the sound...Music and dance definitely come to mind first in literal sense and though they definitely make the grade, we’re not to be limited to them. We are welcome to visual rythms in nature and abstract that almost have a musical quality that only through ‘seeing’ can we hear in our minds.
Hope you enjoy the new challenge theme and we’d love to see the rythms and sounds you wish to share with us.

I agree with Birma, Brian. That's one 'jammin' photo colour and band-wise! It's like the photo is saying "Don't worry be happy". I believe there was a song called like that too.

It needn't be a photo displaying actual music being performed. It can be a landscape that has a rythm; like a repetitive land/rock formation or a certain colour or element constantly repeating itself. That also is a rythmic, musical quality. This rule can apply to anything, even in its simplest appearance.
Ludwig Van Beethoven is a good example for not hearing a single real sound but imagining its form and harmony through his inspirations from natural formations...and replicating them.
I hope this sheds some light to the difficulties of finding a suitable photo.

No pix. Just spent six solid hours playing - guitar, whistle, viola, and 1890s gut-strung zither banjo. Absolutely worn out. I think we had fifteen assorted musicians including three percussion players with cajon, djembes, bongos - two smallpipe players - too manh guitars but a lovely girl called Natalie who comes every year and would give Joan Baez a run for her money.
We just voluntarily provided two pubs in sequence with standing room only, and the owner of the 7.30-10.30 session pub spent from 10.30-1.30 drinking in the late session pub. I feel very good about this because I made it happen, ultimately. From 1996 onwards I kept the music going, every week, never missed unless away from town. Now we have almost a national reputation.
Hate to say it, but the best pix I've had from the club were on Canon 40D - mainly because they senr me a 35mm f/1.4 to try with the camera.
Any reason why the photo you submitted doesn't show today? There's a 'red cross' where it used to be. It was a good photo, incase you had dooubts about it. And you can submit more than one image!
A good musical workout then? Must be feeling exhausted and at the top of the World at the same time!
I believe we're all objective, decent and appreciative enough to welcome a photo from an other brand, David. If for nothing else, just for the sake of sharing the event ? Personally, I see no harm in this at all.
Come on, give it a go! We can survive it...

OK, actually I see it was the Canon 450D not the 40D - 1/160th at f/3.2, 35mm f/1.4, 1600 ISO, for this shot:

It's the only shot I've got of anyone playing drums. They happened to be sitting right under a ceiling spot light at the time. I very rarely take the camera as I am loaded down with instruments and stuff.

Odd as it displays on my PC (from where I posted it) and also on another I have access to.
Have you looked at any other of my posts to see it they are displayed? Other recents are in "I shot the shooters". I store all my forum images in a folder on my webpage server and link directly to them.
I must say that it was worth seeing the photo and it does convey the message 'Feel the rythm...' all too well. I like the soft transition of the light as it completely hides the drummer but brings the hands in focus.

I don't think it was your webserver because this morning when I couldn't see your photo I also wasn't able to see the 'danasoft image that comes with David's signature'-the one that displays the ISP and the browser version. It might have something to do with the connection...I don't really know.
