Numbering of Image Files

For the first time, I have both a Duo-Pro and CF Card in my A700.
For some reason, I am now running two differning numbering sequences?
Would appear that when you switch from on stick to the other, the system continues the number sequence of the specific stick you are on.
ie stick1 (Duo-Pro) in use and has range 100-120.
You switch to Stick2 (CF) it will start at 121.
If you shoot and get to image 300, and then switch back to stick1, it will continue from 121.

This is what has happened to me today - have numerous duplicate numbers.
Has anyone had a similar experience or have I stuffed up somewhere?

FWIW (I think you now know this one John ) I only ever use the DuoPro as an emergency backup if I fill the CF and don't have another spare CF available, so the numbering issue is rarely an issue for me.

As soon as I get on the PC I shove the CF card into the reader, copy the files into a new folder, open them in Bridge (part of Photoshop) and immediately rename them with the date and a meaningful title and they get sequentially numbered, such as 010709airshow - 001, 010709airshow - 002 etc.

When I have the time or inclination I delete the rubbish (often plenty of that) and then rename the remainder so that they are back in numerical order without the missing numbers of deleted files.

Finally, I always back up to two seperate HDD using a programme called Allway Sync.

I had to use my emergency MS card once when I ran out of CF cards.
As far as I remember it was still sequential.

You certainly have a god work-flow there...food for thought....
At the moment, I make folders in the structure:
Year
Year-Mnth
Year-Mnth-Event/Location

As mentioned, this was the first time I have swapped from one memory slot to the other in the camera - and with the strange numbering results.
I actually intend to use CF cards only (2x16GB Sandisk) should see me ok, but will reply on some old Duo-Pro sticks for backup.

Were the cards empty when swapping? My guess is that (using Johns example) it sees file number 120 on the card so goes back to 121 for the next image. If it was empty it would continue from the previously stored file number.
