Fireworks

My first go at fireworks. Not really 100% happy, but here we go:

They did the fireworks too late at night. They should be done at dusk for the best photos. That is the only real problem!

typically, they're at 10pm here, even 10.30pm. Maybe it looks darker than real because I set a very high black point? But for me, I like it more than the non-PP picture.

Too me the really tricky part about fireworks is getting the colour, there is often nice cobalt blues, emerald greens, reds, oranges, yellows etc. but getting just that right ISO and f-stop shutter combo for slow expanding ones vs fast expanding ones, it's definitely not as easy as it looks, I had a brief try from the roof of the house last time there was some here and it was a complete debacle, the camera seemed to be slightly under the weather, fireworks too far away, smudges from trying to hand hold a long lens etc....nowhere near as good as yours Bossel that's for sure...

ps. the city lights in the background are good, nice and sharp, really adds revelance to fireworks, having a decent background in the photo.

The third looks 'nice' to me overall: no smoke and a good umbrella flow of sparks...

Will be better in the future for sure as you take more...and maybe vertical would work better for some of these fireworks...just maybe.

Very nice Bossel! Much better than my attempt, when I discovered that my lens will focus past infintity. (turning focus to infinity, but infinity becomes oof.) What shutter speed etc. did you set it at? John

I was using shutter speeds between 6s (pic1) and 30s (pic2). But its like a lottery, you never now what's coming and how much light will come in. Had to do exp comp in ACR. Another issue, with a 30s exposure there is a 30s dark frame substraction so you might loose some nice ones.

Thanks for the info... Here in the States there aren't too many times to see good sized displays, so not much practice. I found that timing the shutter release was the biggest trick. Plus you can't control the smoke or how close together the launches are. For a first attempt those are very nice. John
