Istanbul at Dawn- city lights still on...

Hi,

You're all familiar with this part of Istanbul by now.
But I shot this photo this morning at 05:29:53 am due to a little discussion that Bossel brought about the landscape being a little in the dark in the 'Enjoy the fresh air!' challenge thread, to give an idea of what the sky and the city lights are like at an earlier phase of the dawn in Istanbul.

It's pretty but no Sun to play gimmicks on and illuminate the clouds for different photo opportunities..

Ah nice one Yildiz, I looked at the nice scene of course but my attention was drawn too the couple of bright objects in the sky so I had to try and find out what they were, I had a play with an online planetarium and set the location for Istanbul and looking SSE ish (guesstimate), and as far as I can see the one on the left is the Planet Venus, and the one on the right is the bright star Sirius, that is if I've co-ordinated the time correctly, I still couldn't quite get the time to agree in the planetarium for some reason that escapes me at the moment (it was a lot more than a one hour daylight saving that I'm assuming your on).

You're correct, thosse would be Venus and Sirius. Good analysis of the planets for the Northern hemisphere!
There's actually a third bright object too but it's less bright and can only be viewed when the photo is enlargened to 70%-100%.

I like them shining so bright and prominent at this time of the day.

We're two hours ahead of United Kingdom at this time of the year. +2 hrs would be a more helpful estimate in your calculations.

Yes I can see it, now that you say (I didn't have too zoom in either), I had a look at the planetarium and I think it's the bright star Procyon (Canis Minor)...I think I've figured it out about the time discrepancy thingy, I think the planetarium program took the +10h UT off my computer but didn't re-adjust automatically when I set the location for Istanbul, and I rewound the sun back down to just below the horizon but with the incorrect time zone, so I had a big discrepancy beween what time the program said for dawn twilight (Istanbul), and the time you gave, ah well computers are only human.

Yes, the third is the Procyon of Constellation of Canis Minor.

I was checking the planetarium also and the info there confirmed the object!

Lovely colours Yildiz - a beautiful picture. You are to be commended for being such an early riser and capturing us this view . I am also glad that you and Greg sorted out the "heavenly bodies". I wondered if they were artifical satellites; so much better to know they are planets/stars.

I'm sure that when you set foot in Istanbul, you'll find things and sights to photograph more than I realize with your very own 'Gustav's perception' look on life as it happens around here. You'll pick out lots....no doubt and I'd love to see Istanbul through your lens!

Thank you very much.

You'd be only correct with the assumption. This is the south-east view from the balcony of my home. When I'm at home, day or night, I always check to see if something interesting is hapenning on the Bosphorus or with the creatures that live close by. Somehow there usually is something going on: sailboat races; giant fuel-filled ships; multi-story beautiful tourist cruise ships; birds flying from all directions as though a non-stop airport...

The camera is ready in its bag, fully-charged and empty memory cards, at home or hanging down my left shoulder when I go out!
So, I either stumble out of bed to take photos or stumble into the city's streets...and something always comes up ...

My only suggestion would be to crop just enough off the bottom to eliminate the bright square thing.
