Isles of Scilly

Having recently returned from two weeks in the Isles of Scilly, I've finally got round to sorting some of the photos. We managed to catch what were probably the two best weeks of continuous dry weather in Cornwall this summer! The three below are all taken with an A900 and either the Sony 70-400 or CZ 24-70.

Next stop the Azores... a forgotten destination for many Brits, the Scilly Isles. Really lovely. I fear I might be a bit bored or restricted as a visitor, unless I had a private boat (and could safely operate said boat!) to get from isle to isle.

I'd like the join the chorus here and repeat almost what they said already; the first is as wonderful as the northern lights' effect and the second made me laugh! Marines lined up in position, waiting for command from the commander-in-chief.

Thanks for the comments everyone. A minute or two after taking the shot of the gulls, a fight broke out between them and they scattered – the luck of being in the right place at the right time. David is of course quite right, if the weather isn’t too good the Isles of Scilly can be a restrictive place to be – we took loads of reading material just in case. The boat operators over there are always great fun – especially when they’re picking on someone else…. We were fortunate to snorkel with seals, something we wanted to do two years ago, but the tides and the weather were against us then (the advantage of having two weeks over there) but I can’t post any pictures here because they were taken with a Canon G9 (in a waterproof housing of course!!!). There were plenty of birdwatchers there as September and October are a prime time for spotting migrating rarities passing through – we missed the osprey that was sighted but saw a few small unusual waders – no pictures though, they’re always on the opposite bank to where you’re seated….

I'm sure the mods will correct me if I'm wrong but I thought the galleries were manufacturer "agnostic"? I think the guidance is that it is fine as long as you say what you took the picture with. I'd love to see some of your underwater shots.

I accepted cameras other than Alphas in the challenges that I started and in fact there's one photo submitted by David Kilpatrick himself at my request in the "Feel the Rythm, Hear the Sound" challenge which is definitely worth examining. (I think it is Canon 450D)

I think it would be fine, if the thread topic also included the manufacturer/brand/model. I believe we're all mature enough to accomodate some photos just for the sake of 'viewing some photos worth seeing + the energy required for uploading'.

I can't promise that they are worth viewing, but for those who are interested here are three of the shots with the Canon G9. Unfortunately they had to be taken at relatively high ISO (for a compact - iso 400) so there is quite a lot of grain, and the seals swim so quickly that the delay on the shutter makes most shots 'misses'.

Thanks for sharing the seal shots Philip. I think they are great, especially when you consider these are with a P&S (a fairly good P&S though ). Must have been a great experience swimming with them.
