Still seen as second class

It's amazing how much prejudice there is still in the camera fraternity regarding the gear you use.

I was guest speaker at a local camera club last week and we had a good night - showed close on 200 digital images and a range of prints, covered all sorts of topics with the images from landscape to animals, with a bit of sport and humour thrown in.

Afterwards in the general discussion there was still a comment of 'you mentioned you used Sony and Minolta lenses, I thought you would be using top quality gear' to which the polite reply was I am.

Some people still cannot see past the camera and think that's what makes the image and I'm not convinced that person believed that the pics were not taken on a Canon or Nikon.

Still, must perservere with my lesser class of camera and might get a shot or two worth keeping

To which I would reply, "sure I would, but who here can afford medium format?"

I'd just tell them, Since Minolta lenses were good enough to be used by Leica, How wold you call them inferior?

In 4 weeks with an a300 I've had similar comments from Canikon owners...................one of whom then went on to mutter that his EOS 1000D was playing up as he couldn't see anything through the viewfinder. Took great delight in suggesting he took the lens cap off. 4 weeks in and I'm an expert !

It's all a bit like the folk who'd buy an old shoe box with an Audi or BMW badge on it but wouldn't be seen dead in a Skoda.

I shot a wedding wherein I apparently underbid the sister-in-law of the bride for the responsibility of being the photographer--I figure this because she brought an EOS 5D mkII with 24-70/2.8 and was married to the videographer. She was rather icy.

I was in Vegas last week with my A700 and grip. I only got to go out and shoot anything at about 2am on the last day I was there but it was a great time to wander as the crowds were gone. in the elevator at the hotel I ran into a guy carrying a canon of some sort. my strap says Dynax on it and I could tell he had some vague recollection of the name and assumed it was some exotic brand .. I never burst his bubble while he showed me all his blurry pictures of hookers and underexposed slot machines ..And told him I had my own blurry hooker shot too. he seemed to feel better.
