Sensor PPI

I thought it might be interesting too list a bit of a comparison of the horizontal pixels per inch of a couple of sensors.

A100 sensor (23.6 X 15.8mm)
10MP 3872X2592 = 4167.3 PPI

A350 sensor (23.5 X 15.7mm)
14MP 4592X3056 = 4963.3 PPI

A900 sensor (41 X 31.9mm)
24.6MP 6096X4056 = 3776.5 PPI

I obtained the info from a couple of places on the web and I don't have any reason to beleive that it substantially incorrect anywhere....as can be seen the pixel density of the A900 is still less than the A100 even though it's a 25MP class camera.

I thought the A900 sensor was 24mm x 36mm or am I missing something?

You're right Dr. H, now I can't remember/find that page again..I just wrote down what was there, (it even had the 5.94um pixel size as well)...but if you calculate on the horizontal size of 36mm, that still gives a good density of 4301PPI which is still less than the A350.

Roughly calculating, yes A350 has more pixels/same area than A900 sensor. Also the latter should have the same amount of pixels as A700. But it is not only pixel count as we all know...

Yes, DPR have all the current cameras listed there except the sensor for the A900, and that is the interesting one too compare against the others, after I got a rough idea of the density (and resolution) figures it seemed to me that it wasn't all doom and gloom for our lenses after all, of course there is still light fall-off and various aberrations too worry about.....if you're really into worrying that is.

I went and got the figures for the A700 just to complete the picture, going by an article I read you are can use it ( horizontal PPI) as a rough guide on how much demand a given sensor places on lenses.
A100 = 4167
A700 = 4634
A350 = 4963
A900 = 4301
