took, these in a little fishing village called pennan in aberdeenshire, these tiny house were actually lived in, they were so small.
the villages claim to fame is that local hero starring burt lancaster was filmed there in 1983 i think, it is a beautiful place
just one row of houses along the waterfront and one pub, the road down is one of the steepest ever.
the place was hit by a landslide a few months ago and the village was appealing for aid to shore up the cliffs at the back of it,
the north east coast of scotland is dotted with these sort of places

Though they are small, it's not so unusual in Scotland - the Highland but-and-ben was only two rooms, little more than a bothy in size, and at night one half was often shared with sheltering livestock. There are two or villages in Berwickshire similar to this, Cockburnspath and another one near St Abbs, with very limited road access and a position squeezed between cliffs and sea.

They would suit Murph well as they get great sunrises. The big problem with them is the cliff cut outs all the sunlight in winter from mid-day onwards, even in spring and autumn the houses are in the deep shadow of the cliff by afternoon, and they never get much sunshine even if the sea throws up plenty of light. That makes them pretty cold and the smaller cottages would have been entirely practical - easy to warm up with their thick walls and small windows.
