Astecs called it the excrement of the Gods; Ancient Egyptians laid their soul-parted, mummified bodies in it to endure the lengthy journey to their immortality; Romans flavoured their food with it; Kings were crowned and throned in it; Victorious athletes wore it against their chests; Chinese gave it the same symbol that they used to represent the Sun: a circle with a dot in the centre...
There’s just that magnetic appeal to the colour of gold that mesmerises men while its replication in nature’s bosom makes him stop in his tracks or pull his vehicle over just to record that significantly short period, when the Sun and the Water of Earth create the magic of gold...mere seconds but to be repeated in every bay, cove, lake, open sea, river, delta there is around the world, until every single human being has glimpsed it at least once in a life time.

Welcome to the result announcements of Challenge 18: “On the Golden Pond”
Our winner is Wave_Wizard with his “Rose Gold”.
The photo comprises a good composition with a tell-tale silhouette of an architectural setting on stilts that provide access to human intervention. The human silhouettes are very vivid and lighted from above producing a halo around the top of the heads. The contrast the Sun produces as it hits the mast of the structure creates a flashing moment as though a star is born. And the photo is an embodiment of why and how the mankind is drawn to water the moment they find a means of access to it, on it or over it, just as it has been for thousands of years.

Our next best is a wonderful photo by Philip Sharp.
A serene, complete shot which requires little explanation. The shimmering weave on the surface of the water, the graceful vertical elements of the sail boat and the perfect circle of the Sun on top come together to form this uncluttered warm scene...It’s timeless. It could have been taken during the times of the Ancient Eygptians sailing on the sacred Nile or today or even in the future... It’s purity.

Our third best is from Paul Murphy.
Yet an other timeless scene of gold weavings that carry swans whose white feathers reflect the blue-purple of the evening light. The weaving pattern that shows as prominent details on the liquid are sharp and make the surface almost appear like molded solid gold sheet with swan figures scattered on it.
