Proud dad of a baby girl

Unread post by adakshi »

He he .. We have a new cute little member in our family, a baby girl. That kept me soo busy since last Sunday, that I couldn't share the news.

Bad part is baby developed severe jaundice (ABO incompatibility) and doctors diagnosed it quite late .. so bilirubin level shoot up to a dangerous level.

Then baby spent almost 36 hrs in Phototherapy chamber .. she is back to Mom's room now and apparently doing good .. we have another blood test tomorrow, that'll reveal if any further treatment is required .. Enjoying her company now .. Will take some pics when she is fully cured.

Congratulations Ayan! :D

You must be both on top of the world and anxious at the same time. I hope you, as a whole family, leave these couple of days behind and begin enjoying her presence full time in her healthiest and happiest!

Enjoy proud Daddy and don't forget the photos... :D

How exciting, congrats!

A year from now you'll get used to not sleeping, and then miraculously they start to sleep through the night!

We have had two with premature delivery and jaundice - fortunately treated easily enough, even 35 years ago. Congratulations! You will have model who wants to dress up in something different every day (sorry, hour - or maybe even every ten minutes).

Hello,

Thanks everyone for the best wishes. Bad news is baby's jaundice aggravated once she was discharged and we had to rush to hospital very next morning. She spent another 72 hours under photo therapy. Looks like this type of jaundice is very rare(3-5%) and not curable easily. Photo therapy is just a way to reduce bilirubin and there is no way we can reduce B antibodies from her blood. These antibodies can stay as long as 6 months in her blood and baby will have risk of jaundice.

Today she stopped getting Photo therapy and situation seems better. She'll stay in hospital for another 24 hrs.

Ayan,

When we had Elizabeth 5 years ago, she had jaundice and they sent us home with a photo-bed setup. (I can't remember if it was an actual bed or a light attachment for here crib.)

Can't they do something for her like that?

Hope all turns out well.

I think you meant bili-blanket, a light pouch. It is too expensive and hospitals here in India don't rent them or don't have them at all.

She is bit better now and will be discharged today. Hope she'll be fine at home.

Sunshine could do a lot of good - the UV/phototherapy lights are just replacing sunshine reliably. I guess they are essential in places like Scotland, or Scandinavia, or Canada where there might be days without any sunshine at all. You could be in a better position for that.

Hi Ayan - hope your baby girl is soon on the road to recovery. It is a worrying time with a new baby anyways, and my thoughts are with you and your family.
