You do not have the "Apollo 13" disk permanently installed in your DVD player?

How can you call yourself a real enthusiast?

Seriously, one thing I would like to do before I die is to meet Ron Howard and thank him for what he did with "Apollo 13" - especially in the area of authenticity. I spotted only a handful of errors in the film, and I strongly suspect that a couple of those were intentional - because the real thing would have actually looked false to the average individual.

Great flowers Greg (and Glad to know Yildiz will be back soon). This reminds me of what I think was one of the best threads of the year - Bloomsville. I think it may be necessary to start a Bloomsville 2010? (oh, and merry Christmas!)

Thanks Tom, Birma, yeah I think a new Bloomsville thread would be an excellent idea...Yildiz might kick one off maybe, sometime...the only thing is, the northren hemisphere is in the wrong season at the moment for good flowers.

ps. Tom, I'd love to know what the errors were, I'm not such an expert on the minute detail of the Apollo program. I think from memory they were having trouble in a couple of areas when making the film, finding original experts in this or that particular field.
One thing that looked a little off was the amount of acceleration depicted in one shot (looking down) of the Saturn V. When I saw them taking off on TV they looked a lot slower more ponderous, (5000 odd tons after all) until they had cleared the tower by maybe a couple of rocket lengths, it was about then you realized that the vehicle was really starting to gain speed, and looking good and stable, so you could start uncrossing fingers..toes...stop holding breath...
