Seconding Birma on this one, are those boxes in the foreground seats of sorts? They sure are striking with their geometry against the curvelinear formations and the sky of the shoreline.

I couldn't say anything, my modem karked it on Christmas morning...had to wait till the shops opened 10am the next day before I could replace it. Anyway Merry Xmas too you all.

pps. David, that very nice picture of St Andrews Church would be even more picturesque if that scraggly tree blocking the view of the church were to have an unfortunate accident...I'm thinking Stihl's disease or such..

Thanks guys, I don't know the exact purpose of the boxes (they are about 5ft square) I think they are just decorative extra seating areas.

David Kelso looks very festive with a dusting of snow, I believe there may be more coming if the weather forecast is correct, and then I think we are due it a few hours after you.

We have festive melting snow and rain at the moment. If the skies stay cloudy, we may get snow this evening but no hard frost. Yesterday we got a hard frost after melting snow and some rain, and that made the roads lethal. We have family coming from two directions today - Edinburgh and Birmingham - but around the beginning of the evening, which is the best time for road conditions, an hour before the temperature starts to fall.

We've had this a couple of days now on the road - 'get home by 8pm'. We set off from Edinburgh on Christmas day around 6.30pm and it was not a bit too soon. The ice was forming as we drove and the temperature fell from around zero to -6 very quickly. We drove underneath the fog, which was very strange nearly all the way; the base of the fog (or cloud) was sometimes down to the road, but mainly at exactly the roof height of the car. An hour later it would have been freezing fog for sure.

It's in a private garden and I suspect the owners don't consider it to be a straggly tree, more of a privacy screen in summer. I have a garden bordered by straggly, overgrown, untrimmed trees. They are a screen to block a direct view from velux windows installed in the roof of the house which was built in land we sold, into our windows.

What we really need are those dense, perfectly shaped tall narrow Tuscan cypress trees but they don't grow well here!

In case anyone in the frozen North is wanting to take refuge somewhere warmer, the forecast for here is 19 C overnight to 42 C tomorrow afternoon with higher temperatures on Tuesday with a fire rating of extreme to catastrophic depending on the winds.

It's a pity that the weather is shaping up like the postings on DPR - all about extremes.
