Yep warmth is the key too success and heavy duty massage, I'm a believer in that, every time I accidently graunch something I rub the area every night with metsal or such, almost to the point of blisters, whatever has gone wrong usually gives up after a week or so.
I've done a couple of good ones to myself on occasion, like the time I was helping my friend doing some slabbing (he got himself a 10hp Chainsaw with a 4 foot blade, and made a slabbing jig to fit onto it for doing large logs into 3 or 4 inch thick slabs...good for bar tops, table tops etc). This particular log was on a bit of a slope so I quickly sawed some offcuts into wedges to chock the log...seeing as how the sledgometer was back at the hut I thought a foot with a steel toe cap workboot was nearly as good for jamming the wedges in under the log....hmm, yes and no, as it turned out, I heel thumped em all in just fine but in the process I jarred my ankle and did something too some ligaments or tendons (I didn't notice anything right away...it was a day or so later that I was in trouble, limping around) and I paid for that for about a month all said and done, even with my usual rubbing, it was acutally that bad I went to a Doctor and had scans and things to see if anything was broken....silly boy.
In your case Henry with the pinched nerve in the neck, it would be very difficult to massage effectively, not like a wrist or ankle or such that's for sure.

ps. Now you see what I was talking about with the Japanese, that bath place is impeccably neat and clean.....
Do you always want a low distortion UWA?
