oh yes quite sure. in fact that might be conservative. those were 2/3 the way dow the track in 600CC studded (class). I didn't stay for the even faster 900 and 1000CC or pro modified. These finish the race at around 90mph. I was told the fastet pro mod sled ib the club does 138 on the 1/4mile. I wasn't able to hear the times because it was too noisey beside the track and they were announcing them when the drivers were returning behind me..
Even this (these 2 actually) rare vintage 1974 Raider 440cc (foreground) would finish the race at somewhere near 80mph. It's a rear engined 2 track machine designed by the guy who also designed the Ford GT40 (that Yamaha in the back was a little faster this day). I have an old 377cc That will do 70mph on powder but thats sure a white knuckled ride if the trail isn't perfect like this track is.
The new suspension systems for the front and the 4 stroke water cooled engines have really changed things.Seems the big japanese companies are taking snowmobiles more seriously now and making competition for Bombardier and Polaris
I still think they are playing catch up though. every year they look less like snowmobiles.
It was a club event. and I see in my e-mail now people are asking for me to make them prints for money.
