"Hey, whacha eating?"

Unread post by bakubo »

Let's post some photos related to food. No need to get too strict about it though because then we can probably get more photos posted. It would be nice if at least some of them had people in the shots too though.

Here's a family sitting at the table next to my wife and I while in Lake Charles, Louisiana. I talked to them some and then asked to photograph them (just had a digicam with me). They had just got their big platters of crawfish and were anxious to chow down. :)

Those creatures are now threatening the entire ecosystem of Scottish rivers. Somehow, we have American crawfish on the loose, and they kill our native crayfish and destroy riverbanks.

Now they want to get rid of them by all sorts of means except the BEST one - catch the little b*s and EAT THEM!

We have the same problem in the States with many kinds of animals, insects, and plants that have been introduced from elsewhere taking over. In Hawaii they put a huge effort into preventing it from happening, but I am sure they are only partly successful. Hawaii doesn't have any native snakes, but they are always on the lookout for brown snakes coming in on ships and airplanes. They got introduced into Guam in the 1950s and now their native bird population has been pretty much destroyed.

They sure are a popular food in Louisiana. The tails are good, but I pass on sucking the heads. :)

Nice shot Bakubo, it brings back memories. The foreground is clealry delineated from the background to the extent you could almost imagine the seller is posed in front of a backdrop canvas.

Thanks. Please feel free to post photos here. Pretty much anything related to food is fine. It would be good to see some photos from other people too.

I was tempted to photograph the food I cooked last night, chickpeas with red chilli and lemon finished off with fresh coriander leaf. In the end I just ate it. :)

I'll see what I come up with tonight.

Here is a photo of my younger granddaughter (then 4.5 years old), taken shortly after I bought my Minolta A2. Taken hand-held without flash, looking down at the tilted LCD screen as if I were using a waist-level finder, to get a much better viewpoint than would have been possible with an OVF. No post-processing other than resizing and a very minor crop.

With best wishes,

I've seen that image somewhere in these threads before, I now assume you work for Robbins Baskin.

I cooked Aloo Mutter Jeerawala tonight, which would (probably?) usually be served with something, so I just threw in half a dozen King Tiger Prawns and had an Indian style 'Gumbo'.

Food is extremely difficult to photograph, esp. if you have just a camera with build in flash. I think it needs very, very soft or natural light.

I photographed my Tomato Mozzarella salad for a thread Aster had created, but then decided not to post it. It just looks so horribly bad. Nevertheless, please have a look.

It tastes great. You have to use balsamic vinaigre of Modaine for the salad and a good cheese from Italy. If you have real basilic it's even better. Salt and pepper for the tomatoes before you put the cheese. Good quality olive oil (first cold pressure, how do you say it - Frank?), no question.

Tom, another nice photo of your granddaughter!

Ewannawe, looks good to me!

Bossel, yours looks good too!

It is almost dinner time and I am getting hungry. :)

If I worked for Baskin Robbins, I would have an even greater need to lose weight . . .

Here is another photo taken with my Minolta A2, using the tilting LCD screen as a waist level finder - and this one was taken at an outdoor cafe in Frankfurt, Germany, not a Baskin Robbins Ice Cream store in Southern California. For most photos I prefer my A700 or my KM 7D, but for certain images such as this one I still find the A2 to be an even better choice.

I think your salad looks very good, and looking at it brings back some memories of the great Caprese (tomato, mozzarella, and balsamic vinegar) salad served at a small restaurant in a tiny town in Tuscany, Italy, where we spent a week with friends in 2004. I have had a good Caprese salad in several places over the years, but none have ever been as superb as the one served by that little restaurant. Your photo does an excellent job of causing me to salivate with the memory of that salad.

Hi Bakubo, :)

I was able to shoot something that's relevant for this thread today.
Maybe you heard of "Döner", a sort of kebab that is popular among many.

Here are a couple while they were getting ready for the lunch-hour rush.
