Berke Breathed was a student at the University of Texas in Austin at the same time I was and he had a comic strip in the student newspaper, The Daily Texan, called Academia Waltz. I recall a particularly funny one in late 1979 or 1980 while the hostages were being held in the American Embassy in Iran.

Yes, but actually "U stink but I U".
When I went to live in America in 1993 I was completely unaware of Berke Breathed. But browsing through a used-book store I came across 'Classics of Western Literature' (a collection) and was instantly hooked. As you can see, I now have a nearly-full set

There are two collections of Academia Waltz but you've got a better chance at hen's teeth.

But here is what I have been ready last few months. some books over 20 years old some months old.

Please feel free to post photos related to reading in this thread. It has been awhile, let's get a photo thread going!

Here is a related photo that is unexceptional except for two factors.

The first - and most important - factor is that the subjects are my granddaughters.

The second factor is that this was the 24th image that I took with my - then new - Minolta A2, and the hand-held shutter speed was 6/10 of a second. This was the shot that caused me to say, "I made a GOOD choice in buying the A2!"

The photo was taken without a flash, inside a concert hall, while waiting for the start of one of the series of concerts for children that are performed by the Pacific Symphony. My bookaholic older granddaughter, who was 5>6 at the time, was not about to let perfectly good reading time go to waste, so she opened the book that she had brought with her and started reading. Her 4 year-old sister occupied herself in more active ways before the start of the concert, which shows in the blur of her hands.

I corrected the white balance to compensate for the artificial lighting, using the book page as the reference point. Otherwise, the only processing that has been done is a minor crop of the image.

I like that effect - just a few sentenaces are readable and there is an air of mystery as to the context - why are we reading this part? what happens next - great stuff.
