So much that doggies are taking advantage of the Sunlight, cool grass and the flowers on the side of the boulevard today.

ps. It's very overcast here, the Tropical Cyclone Catagory 3 (200km/h winds), is due to cross the coast soon, but to the south of Townsville so we may be spared the worst of it, it looks like the resort area at the Whitsunday Islands will cop it.

Still really enjoying this thread, but I'm not always able to post. While on holiday this week I hope to add a few more weather shots. To contrast with the sunshine in Istanbul, here is a picture from this morning's walk here - a bit grey, light drizzle, but lots of fresh air .

Temp 6°C, 43°F, Wind Northerly, 6mph, Humidity 82%, Pressure 1001mb, Visibility Good (officially, but seemed Poor to me ).


(Only took the P&S out in the rain this morning.)

Greg, hope the cyclone is not too 'exciting'.

Hi Birma, I see you have made it to my neck of the woods. I know that beach well.

If you want to get the sunrise you will need to be in-place by about 05:30 ar present, wehave had a few good examples in the last week or so Tuesday morning (when I couldn't go out was spectacular)

Hi Paul, a much better afternoon here weather wise. The weather looks mixed for the next week. The forecast is for a clear night and morning and I'm going to try and get to the spot you mentioned for Dunstanburgh castle for dawn.

Greg, those hills are giving me flashbacks - too much time spent at Lavarack Barracks In fact they also remind me of the hills at the back of the Jungle Warfare School at Canungra a ways to the south of you. WAAAAY too much time spent there!

Actually, that probably isn't entirely true. If you look closely, the early morning surfers are wearing wetsuits yesterday morning when I took this! It was a chilly 18C! Winter is nearly here

Townsville came through without a scratch, the Cyclone hardly even ruffled the trees here, and not much rain either. I think it's the clockwise rotation, the south side of a Cyclone on the East coast is the bad area, and of course right under it.
That's interesting Bruce, that you spent time here, a fellow Townsvillian...good one.
Yes Bruce that's odd that the Umbrella tree blossomed months ago over there...I have no idea why there would such a difference.
I see those Cold Southern Ocean weather fronts sweeping in over there on the news weather map, vastly different pattern too what we get here, no wonder the surfers have wetsuits at 18 deg. it's the amount of change that's the problem not that 18 C is cold by Northern Hemisphere standards, but when you get used to 30-36 C, a quick change to 18 C is definitely cool with a chilly wind blowing as well.

I've noticed the birds in the Umbrella tree spend an inordinate amount of time chasing one another off 'their' flower stem, if they just settled down they might get some nectar time in.

That's what got my attention Greg. He forgot all about the vehicle traffic flowing on each side of the green lane and was in a world of his own...blinking his eyes every now and again.

Those birds that are challenging on the umbrella tree are lovely. Wonderful colours and if only they were still for a short while, maybe we could enjoy their beautiful feathers and colours. (smile)

It's high school golf time again. We took the team to Ocean City, MD this weekend. Sunny but windy.
Could not resist the 2nd shot as the silo fits in nicely with the skyline in the background.

Hi jb, I've got to ask, what does a golf course keep in a silo? My only guesses are either a rocket based deterent, or grass clippings

Good question Birma.
It's converted farm property. Sometimes a golf course architect will leave such things to tie the theme of the course to the property's passed usage. Sometimes they route around them to avoid the cost to demolition.
