Thanks DavidAntony and Greg, :)

The last image is not of the kind of architecture that I like personally. I like a stronger concept in an architectural design, especially a sound basis for the whole undertaking. That's why I like KANYON better. It is an unfaltering, decided and futuristic concept which induces the visitors to go imaginative as well.

This one is not that inspirational and the interior is rather conventional, hence there being no shots from the inside. The IMAX theatre was worth a visit to see a movie though.

I captured a shot but I wasn't partcularly interested in it.

You mentioned that you went to this theater see a film in 3D. How did you like the film, and did you feel that both the IMAX format and the 3D imaging really added to your enjoyment of it?

I am curious because I have seen several films in 3D over the last 50 years, and I consider all of them a waste of time except the most recent one, which was "Avatar". I would have enjoyed that film in 2D also, but I do feel that the 3D imaging did add to the experience in this case.

I really like the IMAX format for documentary films such as "The Dream is Alive", but when I went to see "Star Trek" in an IMAX theater I had the opinion afterwards that IMAX does not work as well for action films - at least for me.

Hi Tom,

This will be a long reply, so I hope your patience doesn't wear off... :D

‘Avatar’ is the best 3D movie I’ve seen to this day. I’ve seen it on silver screen both in Real3D format and IMAX format a couple of times at different 3D movie theatres to study the effects of the aspect ratios of the screens and 3D format on the viewer.

Right now there are several 3D movies being screened here. ‘Avatar’ and ‘Alice in wonderland ‘are on right now and ‘Clash of the Titans’ will be screened on April 2nd.

‘Alice in wonderland’
and ‘Clash of the Titans’ were not actually shot with 3D in mind but were converted to 3D through software in special studios located in India and USA. Avatar on the other hand aimed for a groundbreaking, real 3D experience and utilized the necessary 3D cameras, set and computer technologies linked with this format from day one. And this reflects on the end-product excellently. The other 3D-converted movies can’t even compare to AVATAR, although Tim Burton’s 'Alice in Wonderland' has a nice, fluent and enjoyable storyline that carries the movie joyously to the last scene.

Here’s my overall experience of Avatar both in Real3D and IMAX formats.

Real3D silver screens were smaller in size but the theatres are suitably smaller in space and as soon as you put the 3D glasses on, you are part of the scene. The polarized glasses designed for this format were good but like all glasses they can be deformed and make viewing a pain if not selected wisely by the theatre. And I don’t like the idea of wearing a pair of ‘rental’ 3D glasses that an other person wore a few hours ago even though the theatre staff promise that they desinfect each one before handing them out for a new screening. So after the first time, I bought my own pair from a retailer to avoid any health issues.

IMAX screens are much larger with larger theatres and there’s no break/recess during the screening so you can sit right through the whole movie without being interrupted. Although the screen is much larger it isn’t any more different than Real3D viewing.

IMAX
can come with some glitches though. The screen being large, and the movie maximized you can see every single dust particle that got stuck on the film or on the projection glass. Seeing a fibre moving restlessly about on Jake Sully’s or Neytiri’s faces or during the banshee flights can be quite distracting. :) That’s the handicap of a very large format.

I can honestly say that I enjoyed the 3D format that Avatar introduced to the industry. The structuring and the implementations won me as a moviegoer. I was happy with the experience and enjoyed studying each scene, each avatar’s facial and bodily features to see how each detail was handled by the movie’s director or 3D animators after the performances were captured from the actors acting.

The scenario would make me happier if it was more futuristic than giving in to a familiar love story in between all the exciting innovations but I was happy to study the movie’s other aspects to keep me in the grasp of the movie.

I think we’ll be meeting many better technologies and stories being served to moviegoers in the near future thanks to Avatar’s technological push.

Yes, I like the new intricate and immeculate handling of 3D in films like Avatar which were genuinely shot in 3D. :D And went to the theatre for it more than once....

Hey David Antony, :D

What an enthusiastic person in that house. It definitely is a colourful life!

Your seagulls are nice and they have this red spot on the lower bill which I never saw on our Istanbulian seagulls...interesting.

Thanks for sharing,

Just looked this up Yildiz.

Adult seagulls have a red dot so that the chicks know where to tap in order to get their parents to regurgitate part digested food.

That is a cool looking house - despite all of the stuff hung around it still looks very well maintained, and there is a general air of neatness. I agree that the inside must be interesting.

Weather in Southern California a couple of hours ago - about 23 degrees C, with clear skies and a slight breeze.

Taken while we were sitting on a bench outside a cafe, about 200 meters from an ocean harbor, waiting for a table in the cafe. I was attracted to the image by the assortment of vertical lines.

Hi,

Very nice entries guys! :D

I tried to shoot some photos with my new camcorder merely for testing. I'm not familiar with all the settings available just yet so I used AUTO for them all. It'll need some getting used to, the way that the camera has to be handled usually in one hand and with no support from the other. (I had the umbrella's handle in the other)

Istanbul Today:
11° C | 7° C

Rainy and pretty chilly...must definitely have an umbrella or a liquid-tight coat when outside.

All shot with SONY HDR-XR550E

Heavy rains with a few breaks 9ºc and varying.

Nice images taken with your new XR550E Yildiz.
We have one of those bushes? at the front entrance,
never did Know what it was?

Great moon shot John, I tried a few with my A200
but they were nowhere near that good.

This squirrel was out in the open, no tree for 200'
with many eagles around the area & at a time when
the buzzards go to work. Looks like he's had a few
close calls.

That's an incredible Moon shot, John.
Very bold and well-captured. The APO lens that you used for the flower in the other thread?

David Antony;

I'm glad the little chap is alive and safe. I never saw a black-blue squirrel before...very attractive. I hope that man from the back hoe was good to you! :D

Weather in Istanbul today is surprisingly sunny with a little wind.

Scattered Clouds. High: 18 °C . Wind West 14 km/h .

The photo is from the side of one of our streets. We have various colours of tulips in bloom nowadays.
