Photographers are suing Google. This is directly related to the book scanning lawsuit, but not a part of it.

Ahh when they started on their scanning endeavor I was so hoping they wouldn't run into this kind of trouble. I personnaly think every writen work every createted should be freely available to everyone in the world who wants to have a look. If needed to have a 50 or 75 year cooling off period so the creators can make a living off it then fine but after that it should be given to everyone. I know Googles not doing this out of the goodness of their heart but they have other methods to make money than holding the human creations hostage.

I'm with Javelin on this one.
It's nothing more than a virtual library..a good idea. Copyright mad folks will hate it..but most think it's a good idea.

Since we're talking photos in books, I think I'm rooting for Google. If I sell a photo to a book publisher and 79 million people see it, good for me! It's not like they're giving away my RAW files, just a scan of a printed page.

I do think that book authors (and photographers, musicians, etc.), should get 30-40 years to make money off of their work before it gets put into the public domain.
