I hope they can get you back on home land soon.

The parades are not on the streets I'm afraid. Usually the whole event is arranged to take place in a stadium where the children dance and sing for a couple of hours and then head home with their parents. The children are mostly too young and small and they get tired after the events, so they probably went home for a change of clothes and then headed to the leisure spaces to enjoy the rest of the day.

I'm sure you got some very interesting photos of everything that happened dering your stay...Would love to see them. Maybe on Alamy....

I have too many shots. We started erasing the CF cards, after using the backup MS cards in the cameras. We have two copies of every shot, one on this eMachines netbook, a second on a portable HD. We started by keeping the original cards as well, but now we are using one for a second time. Now up to about 70GB of raw files...

You can't have too many shots. What you CAN have is too little storage! Time for a bigger portable HD!

Those A900 36mb RAW files eat up space fast. When I was in Egypt for a month in December using the A700 with cRAW files about 12.5mb I used up about 22gb.

250GB HD is big enough! We now have a flight home at 8.30pm, one afternoon to walk round a bit more, have a beer or two, maybe no pictures unless something interesting shows up.

At first I didn't understand what you mean by 'Cigars Barek' at first but then I figured it must be this :

Interesting choice to go with beer...I suppose that's how it's in Antalya. I can only imagine right now, to sip on beer and to eat 'cigar borek' at the seaside watch the sun go down. Must be delicious feeling!

Funnily enough Yildiz we did actually order our first çigar börek (I think that is correct) while sitting at sunset outside a bar. They were just five rolls, nothing else, for 5TL I think, nice enough, took about two minutes to arrive. They looked like frozen rolls quickly cooked, the taste was very plain.

Then on the last day, when we knew we were flying home, we didn't want a proper lunch so we ordered the same thing from an old town cafe, 6TL. These took about 20 minutes to arrive, they looked more like the ones you show, they had strong goat's cheese with herbs inside - the sort of goat's cheese which says 'goat!' the moment you bite - and came with french fries and a salad. Again, five rolls. We just shared the plate.

I think the second ones were properly hand made and the cheese was 'real' from the market - the stuff you see inside the goat skins. It's the sort of taste which has many British tourists vowing never to order anything except a burger, but for Shirley and me, exactly the kind of food we like to find!

Everytime I see or someone mentions boreg (boureg, beuyreg, pirog...) I remember my childhood. My mother was an expert in cooking them, with cheese or spinach or meat or mixture sometimes... yummi

Welcome to your home then, now that we know you're safe and already working on your material.

One thing is for sure -at least to me- 5-6 TL is too much for only 5 rolls! They really shouldn't get away with it but dairy products did suffer a price increase before your arrival in Turkey. Still though, charging for the cheese they hardly used fulfillingly is not nice.

The goat cheese, from what I remember, is pressed/stuffed into real goat's skin and is left to complete its self-processing (fermentation) in there. There's bound to be some goat's wool strands in there. I know because I ate exactly that myself!
When I was very small we used to travel to Southern coasts by our car and that meant stopping at mountain villages and buying fresh food from the villagers themselves. Goat cheese was one of the popular products along with yogurt made from sheep's or goat's milk. I used to ask my mother to take the goat's fur strands out for me before eating my cheese and fresh mint-filled sandwiches. Very strong flavour indeed!

Glad you're doing fine after all the turmoil travellers suffered.

Yeah, there it is! No doubt about that!

Well, there are people who wouldn't have any other ... After seeing and experiencing food that comes in all shapes, from the oddest sources that once I wouldn't even imagine existed, I am not that concerned with the packaging as long as there are no hygiene concerns.

I haven'e eaten goat cheese for a very long time though. I make sure that my 'böreks' have a mixture of nice white cheese and herbs that I love or spinach or leeks or aubergine.

Good photo. You certainly didn't skip on what matters! Wonder what else are on their way to Alamy or just for keeping in the archives of yours. I like taking a look at my country's culture and life as seen from a traveller's viewfinder / liveview.

Why is goats milk cheese so crumbly looking? there can't be 'that' much difference between cows milk and goats milk...surely?
