Rome, May 2010

I haven't yet checked all my Rome pictures, but one thing I can say, it was overcrowded.

Sometimes masses of people fought to get through the same small door inside a church - the same door functioning as entrance and exit at the same time. Sometimes it was close to insanity!!

Wow, it's just like being there...thronging hoards of people! I wonder when they put pews in the Pantheon?

Thanks for the heads up. I am heading up that way in first week of June for 2 weeks. I could feel
the throngs of crowd as if I was there. Is it my monitor or most of the shots are soft? Just curious.

I didn't sharpen them after scaling down. The real ones are actually pretty sharp, even in the corners, thanks to my new CZ16-80 which has prooved to be an excellent companion

Now I know why we didn't spend long in Rome but visited many surrounding places instead, last time we were 'in' Rome (actually a hotel-apartment miles out in a forgotten suburb).

Hey Thomas!

Wow! What have you done bringing in this crowd to our forum? I can almost hear the murmers, the calling-outs and bumping...There's a Turkish a saying that my grandmother used when she saw so many people filling the same space, "the place is crowded like a Turkish Hammam! (traditional public bath where the space is kept really hot)"

If you can imagine or are familiar with a traditional Turkish Bath structure, then you'd know her sentiments about such crowds sweating and trying to make everything right for that particular place and moment.

I definitely was a tourist for the duration of exploration through your photos! Good work, by the way as I know it can be tiring trying to take photos with all the those people appearing out of all directions and bumping into you.

Keep us posted and well done! Roma it is!!

I hope I didn't scare anybody away! After all, its still a place worth to visit, despite the crowds. If you have a chance to go there, don't hesitate. It's hard to find so many different historic places on such a small surface as is the center of Rome.

Oh, no! I'm misunderstood...

I didn't mean anything in a negative sense at all, Bossel! It's Rome and it's bound to happen. It's a wonderful place that one breaths history definitely and Pantheon is bound to be a very popular historical and architectural spot. Anyone researching the wonder of monolithic dome structures is bound to be familiar with Pantheon.

Nothing repulsive or negative about the photos, Bossel. In fact, there's nothing wrong with witnessing the real-life happening, better all the more.

What's happening in the pool that we see on the left side of the photo? Everyone's turned in that direction and trying to take a photo... Is there a water show?

I always try to take "the junk show" photograph (all the other photographers jockying for the shot) in the more popular places I shoot. The other photogs look a me like, "What are you doing?"

I'd post a few here, but I don't want to hijack the thread any more that I already have.

I've never seen it that crowded. I wonder if the bad economy is causing lots of Italians and Europeans to stay in Europe for holiday this year?
