Seems I was not as lucky as I thought. The more I focus my 70-400 to infinity, the less sharp the picture is. I was first thinking at front or back focus, but in several pictures I don't find any plane that is in focusbossel wrote:Put it all together and it was enough to fund a 70-400G, which I got yesterday![]()

Sorry to hear that, Thomas. Will you be trying for another 70-400 G or are you going to look for something else?

Seems I got a lemon, but I have 7 days (from reception) to return it, it will be sent back tomorrow
I hope the next sample turns out as a genuine lens, Bossel. Probably just an unfortunate encounter...
Good luck!

That is massively disappointing Thomas
Hope you get it resolved soon.

Nex 5, Nex 6 (IR), A7M2, A99 and a bunch of lenses.

Well, first lets hope the return goes well. The dealer said he'll take it back if it's in is initial state ... it certainly is.KevinBarrett wrote:Sorry to hear that, Thomas. Will you be trying for another 70-400 G or are you going to look for something else?
Then, what to try next? Currently I am changing my mind every 5 minutes. It could also be the 70-200/2.8 - or maybe just the 70-300. Then I get angry and say forget it all, I stick with the beercan and 5 mins later I want another 70-400.
Leaving for a 5 day stay in Germany tomorrow, I will have some time for thought. The side conditions are that I have the money and I already got a bigger camera bag (so it should be a huge lens
Re: Fête de la Musique, France
I would very much recommend a Sony 70-400 G, Bossel!
The reason being a selfish one, I wish to see your shots with this lens and the subjects of course... Easy to say for me, since you have just the right amount in the bank. : ))
You know, hawks in flight, geese in flight and eagles in flight are eagerly awaiting your purchase and you wouldn't want to miss them! : ))
Have I succeeded in hypnotising you to follow this acquisition through by any chance?

Ok, mission proceeded through! Guys, I think we'll be seeing some very distant subjects appearing close thanks to Bossel. : ))
We're very grateful, Thomas ! : )) May you prosper.... shoot and share.
Bonne Chance!

Have been a bit quiet these days, eagerly waiting for my 2nd copy of the 70-400G. I received it last weekend and spent another worryful weekend. It is definitely better than the first copy, no doubt. But it also gives way too many unsharp pictures, esp. at 400mm (and I didn't buy it to use it at 200mm). One could think it's the camera, but I did test a 70-400 on my camera before I decided to buy it and I didn't notice this behaviour. Even at F8 and very fast shutterspeeds.
I have sent it back and will not get another one and am royally p**d off
at Sony Quality Control. Will hold back a while before deciding how to move on, in any case I won't get the 200 Euro Cashback (finishes this Saturday). Maybe sell everything off, get a cheap compact and use the saved money for a trip around Europe not worrying about equipment

So sorry to hear that news, Bossel.
You would think that on a G lens Sony would test each one at several focal lengths and focusing distances on a 900.

Hmm, Bossel, that's tough!
That is discouraging indeed. When things take a down turn such as now, a light and 'freeing' gear set always is the winning thought. : )
Eating a good dinner / meal and having a glass of good wine will do wonders for you. And much later, you may have more optimistic thoughts about everything.. : ))
A trip always sounds magical though! : )
Don't give up on the 70-400 G though, when it's a good sample, we all know how terrific frames it captures!
