How to verify warranty?

Unread post by Old Hydro »

Does anyone have a phone number for Sony USA that works. All that I have found end up with a recording telling you to go to their website -- where you can't find anything but standard answers.

I want to know if a particular lens has a US warranty -- and sony does not seem to give me a way to do that from the site.

For lenses I think you'll find if you have a US receipt for it from one of their dealers it'll have a warranty. they do have to have sales receipts to give you warranty.

When the issue is a $1200 lens, I don't make assumptions -- that they will cover a grey-market lens -- Which in this case was advertised as having a US warranty.

After pushing Sony people a bit, I found there is a Customer Information Support Center. If you call 800-222-7669, ignore the messages and press O three times -- you get a real person, who can help.

In this case they will cover the lens, but they don't like it. Thus never assume, because policy today, may not be policy tomorrow -- unless you have it writing.

well in canada they would cover it no questions asked no matter where it came from. they have with all my grey market alpha stuff so far. I do not expect this to continue though. but here they aren't paying for thrid party repair facilities like they do in the US. I have a feeling they will eventually hand off service to E-link in canada, which actually is a good ourtfit but they will rigidly enforce the rules Sony puts in their warranty (like for cybershot) and that means grey markey products are not recognized as Sony products at all and your on your own, they won't ever repair some stuff for money.
