A few years ago it sounded like someone was trying to land a C130 on the beach which is about three hundred meters from home, so I went down and had a look, the police had the open area behind the esplanade barricaded off, I guess to keep people from getting run over by the giant amphibious LC's that were making all the noise. Unloading the Hummers etc. seemed a rather intricate process for some reason, not sure why but they unloaded slowly and carefully, it might have been because the vehicles were packed in tightly perhaps and difficult too maneuver, impressive machinery though.

Yes, oh, yes. Senior Drill Instructor Staff Sergeant Olko, Drill Instructor Staff Sergeant Tutton, and Drill Instructor Staff Sergeant Flicka did their utmost to ensure that I (oops, I mean, The Recruit) had a rip-roaring time. I can say that it was memorable enough that 35 years later I still remember their names. Wonder where they are now?

It was a SPAM attack Henry - I guess one of the mods tidied it up. The one good thing about the occasional SPAM attacks is that they good a great job of dragging up old threads which usuaully have something interesting to see and remember. This was a good case in point.

I wonder if it is possible to have an automated way of randomly picking a thread or post from the PCA history - I think it would be an interesting feature, "memory of the day" !

Yeah Baz I bought one new (I wanted a Dynax7 for my Minolta collection, but none were available here in Oz at that point..pity), just before KM pulled the plug, it's a really nice little camera except I'm not totally fond of the non re-chargable batteries, but apart from that I reckon it's about half the weight of my KM5D, and I have a lot of respect for that camera as well...pity KM decided too give it all a miss after producing such a fine little camera, many of it's features/interface having since been copied by other brands.

Yeah, we get used to rechargeable batteries fast, don't we? I used to go through quite a few of the 2CR5 batteries for my various Minolta AF SLRs. Generally about $10 each. Of course, my older MF SLRs used button cells that would sometimes last for years. I checked my old X-700 a few months ago. It still has the last battery I bought for it in about 1987 and it still works. I don't leave it in the camera though. I leave it outside the camera and just, occasionally, put it inside to check on the camera.

Yep I do that as well Henry, (leave em out...now I don't use the cameras much, if ever anymore) I see that someone in a photo shop the last time I bought a battery for one of my X700's gave me a single battery instead of the two buttons, it seemed too work ok but I don't know if it will last any longer or not, the one with the two button cells needs a new pair or the single one, whatever....next time I remember it. The problem with those buttons is they last sooo long, by the time you need too put in the spare ones they are on their last legs as well....kicking around in the camera bag, still in the packet, for years and years.
