Sunset

I was up on the Roman Wall this evening and got about 5 mins of colour as the sun went down, but sometimes that's enough.

Hi Paul - love the colours and shapes in the clouds. I'm glad you were able to get out and capture some interesting light. I drove home through some pretty amazing sunset colours in the Cotswolds last night - sadly time (and my camera bag) were not on my side .

Lovely colours indeed and I also liked the choice of crooked trees on the side. They certainly stand out and make the photo more interesting. Nice pastoral image.

Nice fade from blue too pink tone and green contrast, wot's that black spot near the horizon? it's not sensor dust, must be a bird or a plane I guess.

Beautiful shot Paul... I find light like that hard to resist. Good exposure on the grass as well. Just enough to bring up the bottom of the image, but not too much to detract from the sky. John

Thanks all for the comments, Greg the black spot is a bird - you can see the shape clearly on the hi red image (probably should have cloned it out on the web version).

First one seen on the way up to the Roman Wall - it just summed up evening in the countryside for me

More lovely shots Paul - I prefer the original sunset shot to the HDR - perhaps the light had changed between the shots, or perhaps the HDR changes the colours somewhat - but it is all based on personal preference of the colours. I really like the final wall, lead in, shot as well. If only those stones could talk .

I like all those Murph. Yeah I think I like the original one slightly better also, even if the HDR is more dramatic.
I wonder if the wall is still the same height as it originally was? it looks like you'd have too have troops stationed right along the whole length of it.

Lovely threesome! I like the first one with the long shadows and solemn mood. The HDR does add a sense of mystical darkness but also a great amount of detail to the photos. I like the compositions of both HDR images.

I believe the Hadrians Wall was actually heigher in its original state than what we see here in the photos. It's pretty amazing that the Romans were always generous with the manpower and design when it came to architecture and construction. The Hadrians Wall is a wonder of men's ambition and diligence, though it was more of a militarian purpose than civilian.
