It is the time of year in the UK (and I guess much of the northern hemisphere) for the appearance of these almost alien looking plant forms. They don't really fit with Trees, Leaves, Flowers, Garden, etc. and so I thought I would start a new thread. Please post your pictures of all thing fungi here. Here are two for starters.

It looks like something has been nibbling on these but trust me, it was not us .
Thanks Barry. I am very pleased with the copy I have now (I had to send one copy back). I haven't performed any tests on it, just gone out and used it, so this is all just imho. It can produce very sharp images and nice bokeh. The focus can hunt but I believe this is a feature of macro lenses, once locked in the AF seems reliable. The manual override with the lens focus ring is a very useful feature. On aps-c it is a very useful focal length for people shots. In the last couple of trips out with it I have noticed that my Raw files seem better exposed - this is not something I would have expected a lens to make much difference to - could just be a different approach in using it. At the moment I don't think it will replace my Minolta 50 f/1.7, but I haven't used the 50 with a CUL since getting the Tamron .

Some of the fungi are very toxic, so maybe it was an insect that was nibbling, I doubt a meece would be so silly. Fungi is one of the reasons I wanted a Ringflash, the Rainforest here is full of different types.

I haven't posted a picture in the while, and this is not a great example, but I wanted to keep the funghi thread in everyone's mind since it is a good time of year for them in the Northern Hemisphere. I was on a family walk and just grabbed this quickly - it is a bit "grainey". A700 + Tamron 60 f/2
It is a good example, looking just as it should. The grain is rather interesting enveloping only the mushroom leaving the details on the frontal parts of the cap intact and noiseless.
I have no idea where our 'Northern Hemisphere' fungi are but they certainly aren't in my garden because it's pretty warm here, still. I'll look closer during my walks... : )
It's also good to see photos posted after all the equipment talk due to Photokina's rather prolific Sony productions, which are good news, by the way!

Thanks Yildiz . It is feeling very autumnal in this part of the UK and the woods are starting to change. Quite damp and cool which I guess starts the fungi appearing.
It was nice to actually take some pictures after the "excitement of Photokina" and all the discussion on gear. Some people get upset with manufacturers, and then other people get upset that the first group are upset. I love hearing about the new gear and technology and looking forward to future bouts of GAS, but I appreciate that for some it can be bad news as well and so not as welcome.

Hi Birma,
It's in the nature of everything technological. There's bound to be a difference of opinion among the consumers looking for new and efficient updates and the manufacturers themselves; it's a field of compromises and tolerances.
I hope Sony fulfills the expectations of the higher-grade DSLR users as well. : )

ps. Yep I agree it's always the same when new gear comes out, for me I don't really care all THAT much what the new gear is, the only thing I want is for Sony to fix you know what. (the item that would be very handy for photographing fungi for example, I bet you can't guess)

Hi Greg - It does look puff-ball-ish. I can see from the various mushroom/fungi id. guides and web sites that you need to open them up to complete the id. in some cases - I don't fancy this as it feels a bit like picking wild-flowers and I've read too many sci-fi style novels with bad things happening with strange flora and fauna . (Heinlein is one of my favourites too!) I think I am still a little way from getting GAS for a ring flash, but I'm sure I'll be there in a year or so, and then able to properly join you at the barricades for that issue .

Hang on a sec I'll make room for you....shuffle shuffle, push,shove...there, I made room for Yildiz as well just in case she might want to make the tea and scones, she might'nt want too pick up anything sharp and dangerous. ha ha

No, I wouldn't want anything blasting in my hands or shedding my blood or breaking any of my bones !
I'll probably ask of you to port my portable oven or ask you to build an earthen one on spot and start mixing all ingredients and follow all future actions and developments Sony makes while trying wild flower teas and fruit pies! : )
And now and again I'll drop a line on what kind of equipment and gears I require of them; all sorts of flashes are on my list and a brilliant Alpha that will put many other brands to shame....The rest I'll elaborate once I am more convinced that I want them.
