I suppose I could get some strong sticky tape and put it over the top end inside the anchor well and over the outlet also, so the ocean doesn't wash the nest out...if I don't forget.
Yeah the boat is coming along, I discovered lots of fiddly jobs to do too make it shipshape, there's about 70 stainles screws holding the marine ply deck onto the frames and many of those had got white rust so I have too urethane new aluminium squares under the top lip of the frame so there is new material to screw each screw into. There's an endless supply of spots and paint chips too sand and feather out, the bumpers between the bottom of the frames and the actual bottom needed replacing (there's a gazillion of those), and the entire area underfloor needed sanding and cleaning and painting. All the electrics, instruments, switches, nav lights, marine two way radio, sounder, bilge pump, both outboards (main and aux), all run and seem ok , the battery, EPIRB, extinguisher and flares were out of date and needed replacing...phew, I think that's about it.
Dang it's only a small runabout...I didn't know there was all that work waiting for me, or I might not have started.

Ha ha yeah Tom, I've heard that one before, I think it's sortof similiar to cameras in some respects as well, there's always that next bigger boat that would be THE boat. Just like there's that lens you've just got to have otherwise existance is pointless....

Hi Greg,

No matter what, even the smallest of boats is worth having by, being the only means to feel free in the middle of a pool of magnificent waters...how else to make that extra mile towards a sunlit, windblown blue wilderness and experience the taste of isolation, solitude and feeding out of the water and learn to appreciate all that was generously created for mankind?

Any boat will do, even if it's the smallest as long as it's 'my boat'...but of course a larger one would mean safer trips.

Make the most of your boat and enjoy, Greg! It's your freedom on the biggest aqualand Earth was gifted with. And catch some sea creatures while doing so too... And maybe enjoy a cool beer or a glass of wine!

Good hard work, by the way, congratulations for the overall maintenance venture! : ))

Thanks Yildiz for the kind thoughts, I'll be glad when it's done though. I have too have the boat fully servicable again, it's no use it sitting there while I pay the registration fees every year and not be able to use it. And besides one never knows when a visitor could drop in and would like to go for a spin or fish, I'm pretty easily persuaded.

ps. There's method in my madness too, there is a few places around here I would like to go back too and take photographs of in digital, places that you can not drive a car to.

I hope we see the photos here in the forum too! : ) I kind of envy you...doing something worthwhile for yourself and enjoying the outcome too.

I know where you're coming from Yildiz, it's much more satisfying to do something for yourself for once, rather than doing it for someone else. Even if you aren't getting paid to do it.
Poor old girl, everything is being stripped off... (it's not totally off thread, there's some insects actually IN the picture, they're just not really obvious).

That's one fine, cute boat, Greg! It'll achieve a great deal for sure; taking you far enough and safely enough... : )

It actually looks in fine condition after all the work and nicely fitted with all the necessary parts too, the engine and all.

Can you ski behind that thing, Greg? Better yet, is there a safe place near you to ski?

I've skied the Amazon, but only after I was convinced that piranha problem was over-hyped in Hollywood films!

The Lake of the Ozarks is a much more comforting place to ski!

Thanks Yildiz, it's still far from finished though, the sounder transponder is hanging on the right handgrip and the aux 15HP is missing and many more things have been removed inside for the moment.
Yes Dusty, I'd say it would easily tow a skier, although there is no ski-pole in that boat that's the only problem, I guess one could tie a loop around the back and hitch the towrope onto the middle of that but I'm pretty sure there is now a requirement for someone towing a skier to have a licence for that as well, (I'd have too pass another test). And yes there is freshwater lakes around locally for the powerboat skiers, they even like too do ocean ski races around Magnetic Is. but that's not my cup of tea.

Actually the second bee is not alone as it has a nasty infestation of little white mites who appear to be passesngers. Anumber of bees I saw on Monday had this problem. Another thing they have to contend with (Tamron 60/2)
