Great to be back on this thread and posting again !

We celebrated the 87th anniversary of the constitution of the Turkish Republic last night ( 29 October 2010 ). I hope it also reflects as a prevailing will for grace, peace and joy on our nation and all those around the World.

I was able to capture a few usable shots from the Light + fireworks show that was held over the Bosphorus and the Marmara Sea.

DA I love the crane shot.. I must have missed it earlier.
Great fireworks Yildiz! It looks like it was a wonderful celebration! I caught some of a BBC America program called 'Real Cities', hosted by famous people from that city. They just happened to be showing Istanbul. WOW! I didn't realize how great a city it truly is..As if your photos don't want to make visit enough already.. Now I'm sure I want to see it.

Spectacular firework display Yildiz. They are all great, I do like
the way you left the sky way above 2, 3, and 4. for that northern
lights aurora type effect.

Yep John I agree, that old courthouse looks a bit like a bomb shelter, we'll see the replacement in due course I trust.

Thank you for the kind comments on the photos.

We would only love to see you in Istanbul! Although it doesn't get the immeculate attention it deserves for a city that's older than some of the ancient civilizations as a world heritage zone because of the unattentive and corrupted government and municipal officials and of course some citizens that are insensitive to its sweet natural beauty, it still is an experience any world citizen should not miss on.

You are always most welcome! : )

A new courthouse means a better design and a refreshing new sight in the near future. Can't wait to see how they will erect the new structure; new technology and contemporary materials with good architectural design I certainly hope. : ) Something good and useful for the town's people that they can take pride in and also take photos of!

The perch it is!

The sky, with lots of scattered clouds helped collect and disperse the colourful lights the spots beamed up and there was more beauty up there than I could capture in a single frame actually. : )

I've been busy most of the week helping to put the new roof on. Living close to the ocean is nice but you have to watch anything made of steel, although being fair the roof has probably been on the old place for 70 years...so can't complain too much.

Thanks guys, I don't think I'll be around for another 70 years to find out, but they reckon the new fangled colorbond stuff is pretty good and cooler than the old gal finished iron, also there is some insulation going in (by me), rotten stuff that is if you get downwind of the dust that comes off it, itches like blazes.
I reckon that's a yarn DA, frying an egg on a car bonnet or something out in the sun, didn't they try it in death valley? and it didn't work...or did it?

Great fireworks Yildiz - a spectacular vista

John, the caterpillar tracks in the foreground really make that shot for me - not sure why - hope the replacement building is an improvement.

Lonnie - what a fantastic sunset to get from the back yard - awesome .

Greg - I suppose the insulation is to keep the heat out rather than in? From a country which uses slate and now cement tiles this type of roofing seems very high tech - I think it looks better than the "tin roof" version .

A lovely sunny warm day here. But I have to use a Canon 60D, which is basically a plastic version of the 7D with bits disabled or dumbed down. I have some nice lenses with it but really it's a pretty ordinary camera.

Hi Birma, yes absolutely the insulation is too keep the heat out, it's not really bad near the ocean here even though it's the tropics, there's nearly always a nice sea breeze; but we do have a few warm days here and there in the middle of summer, so the insulation is my green donation to prevent them building another coal fired power station to run airconditioners....sounds good doesn't it ha ha.
The really big weather problem we have here is we are in a cyclone area and you can get a bit of a ruffle up from one of those if your roof isn't in good condition. They expect quite a few cyclones to startup this season in the Coral sea, (but they always say that) due to some la-nina ocean effect...apparently.

I looked at what David wrote, 'nice warm' 'sunny' was mentioned....yeah right, it's probably about 5C or something horrible in that vicinity
