I think I figured it out. This thread was sticking as unread because this lens wants to be owned by me! I had some time to stop in at the local camera shop Tuesday and tried this one out. I liked it a LOT!

Of course, I've been trying to save for the 580, so now I'm in a dilemma - new body or new lens?

I found one at about 60% of normal street price, refurbished stock from Warehouse Express in the UK. Now I have an 8-16mm, suddenly I'm not so worried about not using the Alpha 900.

David, this comment along with the other one I saw today where you said the A55 produces files about as good as the A900 and that you will take it instead of your A900 on the trip I am wondering how much longer you will keep the A900? Of course, I know the big A900 OVF is nice, but it sounds like little by little you aren't using it much anymore.

I don't have any plan to sell the A900. It has many entirely different uses, and some different lenses. This trip is with Ryanair and their whole cabin/hold baggage policy is obstructive.

I need to take the A55 and it has a whole different set of lenses to the A900. I could not really take two entire outfits, plus the NEX-5 kit which I really don't ever intend to leave behind when travelling. So this time the A900 stays home.

Similar dilema, A580 or Sigma 70-200 f2.8 :D

All my Sony SLT gear gone. Still got my RX100 though.
