Time changed by an hour and 12 minutes. I know because I recently adjusted for daylight savings.
I'll re-check my macro lens for focus on the weekend. I'm taking photos of butterflies on Monday, and it would be great if the focus speed improves on the macro, which can hunt a lot. I use manual focus a lot of the time, but if it's much improved I can auto focus more. Will report back next week.
I re-checked my focus adjustment. -9 is significantly better than zero on my 100mm macro. I also tested the CZ135 to make sure I was not setting up the LensAlign incorrectly. The 135 is 100% accurate at zero, and much worse at -9.
Both lenses seemed quicker to focus, but I didn't experiment much. I know how the focus used to work at the Butterfly Conservatory, since I'm there at least twice a year, so I'll know how much better after Monday.
Last Monday the weather was bad, so we postponed. Today, weather was good, but I had a disaster. At home I set up the camera with the KM macro controller and ring flash, and attached the camera to my monopod (tripods are not allowed). I didn't hear the click of the QRP, but I let go anyway, and it went crashing onto a wooden floor!
The camera makes a really sick noise when I turn it on, and nothing displays in the viewfinder with a lens attached, although if I set it to take without a lens it works.
The KM controller is stuck on the hotshoe, which itself seems to have some play in it. The controller works in that I can use it in test mode and the ring flash fires.
I took the whole lot to my retailer, where I have an extended warranty. We tested the 100mm macro on another two cameras and it seems fine. They couldn't detach the controller, so the camera along with the controller has gone in for repair. Although it's not a warranty repair, the retailer pays 20% of the repair cost because I have the extended warranty, and they manage the repair process. One issue is that in Canada Sony repairs DSLRs themselves, but all Minolta equipment is handled by a different company. They told me to expect 8 weeks to get it done. I could have gone direct to Sony, but then I lose the 20% and I have to manage the process between two repair companies, which sounded to me like it could take the same amount of time - Sony direct would be about 4-5 weeks according to them.
In the meantime, I'm going to be using my daughter's A33, so I'll know much more about the viewfinder soon!
