Thanks Yildiz and Birma, I'm doing my best not to be a temporary Australian. I took a couple of shots up where I am working late in the afternoon, the platform seems quite sturdy, I've got one section of facia scraped, sanded and painted and the new type gutter mounting brackets screwed on via string line, now to fit the gutter back on.

Greg- Your new roof looks to be one helluva project. I hope that you are able to complete it soon, and without injury. When it is time to replace the roof on my house, I doubt I'll have the intestinal fortitude to do it myself. However when I get the estimates from a roofer, I may change my mind. John

Thanks John, yes it was a big job, I couldn't have done it myself with the long continuous sheets they use now, the original style was overlapped shorter sheets but that leads too galvanic corrosion if water gets in between them...as it does. So yeah I was lucky having a brother who is a plumber and his friend (did their apprentice together way back when) who actually does roofs; the material bill alone was about $5000 so I can only imagine what it would cost to get a team of roofers in to do it. I was there giving them a hand of course but there is an art in putting a roof on properly that's for sure.

I am better. The awful headache mislead me into thinking I might also be heading down into a cold's crazy spiral with lots of sneezes and coughs not to mention fever that would have me half unconscious... ( know from past experience )

Indeed, that's good work, accomplished up there, Greg! Everything is coming together nicely. A couple of things back in their places where they duely should be doing their tasks as planned and you're free to move back into your routine daylife!

Your brother, his company and yourself are doing good for lending hands and workmanship, nowadays nothing is cheap if one looks for proper materials and expertise in labour.

Well done! The roof looks so clean and water resistant that I'm sure there's a cold wind and a rain shower out there waiting to find out if your roof system can stand up agains it!

Birma -4°C is way off my list of things to experience, I remember once I went out west in winter (I'm not sure how I got talked into that one) to go pig hunting with a compound bow, and even though we built a huge fire it was freezing, my friend had a thermometer and he was walking around checking the temperature here and there; it was actually 0°C most everywhere where the sleeping bags were, in the annex (me) and the back of the trooper (him) it was 0.5°C (a heat wave) I briefly thought of hijacking his sleeping spot to get that half a degree....
Yep Yildiz you're quite right our wet season has already given the new roof a good test, we had a deluge the other night and no leaks that I know of.
The crazy bug that was blocking my anchor well outlet is still at it, but I think that's about as much of that sticky sap stuff as he's going to get in there...I don't know what happens when the eggs or whatever hatch, that stuff is as sticky as glue. The other hornet nest on the mattock blade has already got holes in it from a couple of new hornets hatching out.
The doves are, I'm pretty sure, ok; I think the mother one calls them and they shift around a good deal from tree to tree, branch to branch before they settle down in a particular spot for the night, I watched it all happen over the space of half an hour or so before dark.

Worcester weather.
Fog, Temp -5°C 23°F, Wind 0km/h, Humidity: 100%, Pressure: 1007mb falling, Visibility: Poor.

Freezing fog today. The family have all had the "lurgey" over the weekend, and eventually I've succumbed and I am at home feeling sorry for myself. A spectacular day out with the freezing fog covering everything in frost. If I was feeling better I'd be at work so not too much lost I have consoled myself with a few "from the sofa" shots with the A700 and Beercan. Very heavily cropped, and the less than crystal clean windows can't be helping. We've been doing our bits for the small birds and have been rewarded with a great variety this morning. Here are some that stayed still for 1/250 of a second or longer .

The Long Tailed Tits are a very welcome visitor - we only see these guys in the winter when the weather is severe enough to encourage them in to gardens from the local woods. Just to see 10 of these little fellas hoping around the back garden is well worth the pound or two on bird food .

nice food pics. You artistry extends well beyond photography. I think more DOF on the first shot would yield benefits. Were you using a tripod?
Lastly, try Jack Daniels if the chicken and rice soup does not work.

Get well soon! I hope that you feel much more yourself pretty soon! Take this time as an opportunity to rest your bones and improve your skills at shooting through not-so-clean glass of beautiful birds. : )

The whole set of photos are incredible as far as I'm concerned; they are spectacular and very cute and braving a frosty environment.

You're doing a fine contribution to their survival by letting them have seeds and nutrition in your garden. Convenient that the birdfeeders are close to where you are resting on the couch.

The critters at your end seem to be fully done with their nesting and you're yet to become more of an uncle for some flying baby bugs yet. : )
Interesting life pattern your dove faimily shows there! I wonder what goes thorugh the head of the paents when they lead them from one tree to an other, branch by branch ?

I'm also glad that the roof already prooved to be impervious to any rain. : ) "Greg will be safe from now on."

Here are two feeding at our window - seen as shadows, by the A55 with 18-250mm Sigma, on the window shutters, yesterday when the sun was quite strong. It was sunny again today but the temperature was -10C and no snow was melting at all, it felt extremely cold.

Thank you! Learning from the best here. Always and always... seeing the photos you all create out of those view-finders does generate aesthetics beyond that of photographic needs.

I agree more DoF would have served the photos better. : ) I'll keep that in mind during the next shooting but I really was fighting a headache that sweated me and I thought the sooner I was out of the kitchen I would be better.

I used a tripod, yes. I din't trust my grip with the camera and wanted to make sure that it was on a more stable stand.

Jack Daniels, it'll be! There's still a cold winter and ever-changing weather conditions ahead of us at the Northern Hemisphere and I'm sure there'll be opportunities to for exactly doing that!


Thank you and I hope you're doing fine during these rather surprisingly-cold-European-days, considering we still have warm moments that permit a good swim and sail in the Mediterranean and Aegean coasts in Turkey. Even Istanbul is too warm for any 'wintersome' clothing... : ) The low temperatures the UK and Europe are experiencing at the moment are someting we eye in awe!

Great work you & the boys are doing Greg, good photos. I've put on
two asphalt roofs but would not know where to start with a metal roof!
The scaffold looks very secure to work on. I once fell off a 40' ladder!
Thank God I was only on the first rung. ;^)
