A55 review now up

Hmm while he's giving the A55 and Sony in general a bit of a drubbing he manages to give the D7000 a pretty good wrap at the same time. He didn't mention the price difference between the two cameras though, not that I noticed anyway.

This has some light sources right in-shot, from balloon burner to sun, and even some sensor dust (it's dusty place!) but otherwise is an amazing demo of what the A55 can do, and quite beautiful to watch.

Maybe it's down to whatever conditions Rockwell shoots in, his colour preference. I find the A55 colours not far removed from Nikon's colours, and rather better than Canon's, for my environment. He goes on a lot about not being able to find tune AWB and it would, indeed, be nice to have fine filter and WB controls like the old KM A2 had - funny how much has been forgotten. But he has probably not tried the AWB Bracket function, where the camera shoots a single frame, then generates three RAW files with three different WB adjustments (or three JPEGs, of course).

Yes, he only shoots jpeg so it was really funny some months back when he made such a glowing recommendation for a raw converter, I think it was DxO. He had a link so I am sure he was getting paid for any sales that came from his site. Clearly he doesn't use a raw converter, but he might have picked up a few bucks from people who just drifted by.

... you can wake up the camera with the Play button (|>) too.

I have found out that you can wake up the camera by inserting/removing the memory card too.

And you can switch off the camera by removing the battery.

I have found that with the A700 you can just look at it, a passing shadow, a black cat crossing your path, etc. sometimes will wake it up.

The delay would have to be caused by the processing for the EVF, not because it has a fixed mirror, I'm surprised that any delay of that nature is so small actually, but yes the flash problems would have to be fixed for the A7x for it to be on an even standing with a normal DSLR.

No, because if you read the thread, A580/A560 has the same delay. It's change in hardware and has nothing to do with EVF

Do you have a link to a test that shows the delay for the A580-A560 is the same as for the A33-A55?

I'm thinking about how to devise a test to show the lag. It is present, I had not noticed it as I use a wireless trigger with studio flash, and rarely if ever use on-camera flash. I think that the A2 has a similar lag, it just feels familiar.

Someone at dpr, was using the jab the button method, KM5D vs the A55 shooting so a mirror reflects the position of the trigger finger at the moment of exposure, still [on] the button (KM5D) and off the button (A55).

ps. probably bounce off the ceiling would be best so the flash is not pointing at the mirror.

I have worked out a test. I won't say what it is yet, sorry. It's very simple and will give precise comparisons between A700, A580, A55 - it's very late tonight, I'm off to bed, but I have a way of doing EXACT timing comparisons for the flash on all three cameras.
