Ha the iceman returneth, hi DA, I thought you might have been frozen in or something, although there doesn't seem too be a lot of snow at the moment in your two shots, but at 0 degrees there is a good chance I reckon.
I wonder what plant makes little white balls, that's an unusual one. Looks like the old tree had reached it's expiry date and the parks guys stepped in and finished it off, I wonder if they'll do anything with the timber?

Over here (the Netherlands) it's pretty snowy last couple of days. I had a little time to take some shots today, here goes.

I was watching the BBC world news for a little while and Heathrow was closed, no flights, the whole place was white but you could still see the planes and buildings..just.

Yes, we are having lots of snow falling the last couple of days. With a little bit of luck and help from mother nature, we'll have a white Christmas this year.

Although all this snow gives everyone a joyous and nostalgic feeling it does lock up traffic and traveling over here. Yesterday around the end of the working day, there was a traffic jam of more than 70 km. That's a lot for such a small country as ours!

Fantastic apple pie Yildiz - definitely vanilla ice cream on my slice please . I really like the detail that went in to the Kitty Pizza as well, almost too nice to eat, only almost though, it is pizza after all

I am amazed that DAs shots have no snow. Where has it all gone? Answered by Mark (and hopefully my shots) - we have it all over here in Northern Europe . Nice to see your snow shots Mark.

We had an inch or so of snow last night - enough to make it look like a Christmas card out of the window. We braved the journey in to town (we don't get that much snow so even an inch makes us feel intrepid!). While sitting in a retaurant it started to snow heavily and I popped outside to take a picture.

Then we got stuck in the grid lock as well. Only small hills in town but these were enough to cause chaos with rear wheel drive cars and lorries getting stuck. It took me an hour and a half to drive the 3 miles home

We are trying very hard to keep up with the extra feeding of the garden birds with the weather being so bitter. Extra meal worms today and my wife grabbed a couple of shots which I think are rather nice. (Both with A700 and Beercan.)

While not rivaling Greg's Lorikeets, I think Starlings have pretty amazing plummage. This chap was keenly getting stuck into the meal worms. Each one got a jolly good shake to make sure it was dead before being swallowed (hence the bits of flying snow).

Our Robin, while grateful enough for the meal worms, seemed to emphasising that the peanut feeder was not in use today. "Ok, ok, Bobby (all Robins are called Bobby in our house, I have no idea why ). We'll get some tomorrow."

Great pictures Birma, especially the ones with the Bobby and Starling!

We're feeding them extra's too. Some left over bread and baguettes here, an extra bag of peanuts there and now and again. The funny thing is, although food is hard to find for them, they are still picky about what they eat. The bread we gave earlier this week was gone in a blink of an eye, but the half baguette we gave this morning is still out there... Oh well, maybe it's the weeds and seeds in the dark bread which they prefer over the white baguettes.

Great shots DA, Mark and Birma- Weather here in the 'burbs is actually quite pleasant, 4° , winds calm. I took the time to put lights in the trees this year, a PITA considering how big my trees have gotten, but worth it. Good night all, John

What a great series Birma, I really like that shot from outside the cafe while it's snowing (and the mini trafic jam). And the bird photos are just wonderful, what a delightful little bird that Robin is, great photos, yes the Starling is certainly a striking bird alright.
Do they use chains when it get's slippery, I've seen cars and trucks on the news just sliding along with no control over direction at all...scary, my 4X4 would probably be the same when it's like that, maybe there should be a half track you could mount on the rear wheels and chassis of a truck, that might be better for low speed progress, at least you'd be able to move...maybe.

ps. I used the F56 for fill in those Lorikeet shots, with probably not a great deal of success, the system automatically goes to HSS when outside in bright daylight which is useless for freezing movement when the distance is long and HSS being so feeble also. The only way of getting some sharpness is to try to get high shutter speeds and still balance the bright back light within the power level of HSS at longish distances, I might try [S] mode and see what happens.

Townsville weather: very muggy, rain overnight, now the bright sunlight is making a sauna for us.

Good photo of your dec's John, what an amazing sky.

I saw those Lorikeet shots Greg, really like those,
lots of good colour there. Saw them when I was skimming
through here a couple of days back forget which thread?
I'm not sure what those berries are, a friend told me
there are plenty in Ireland.

John, your yard has a nice atmosphere this way and yes, it does look like a lot of work. Nice clouds in the image, but what's the "rod" on the left?

David: don't know what the berries are exactly, but I do know they grow here too. When I was young, me and my friends used them to shoot at each other through the use of a blowgun made out of left over PVC pipes. Was pretty harmless, as the berries are rather soft, especially in summer when it's hot.

Very nice image with nice, little grainy bokeh. I like it!
