Very nice scene Birma. Good to hear it is warming, Stephanie is flying home from Paris January 4th. Some very good photos from the red rose county where I would imagine the temperature would be about the same. Thanks for sharing gio67.

Love the bleak mid winter scenes Gio67 . I especially like the first scene which seems to carry you off in to the distance through the snow. The third picture looks like it may be a frozen lake?

Wonderful snowy winter photos indeed. Personally, I think there's a charcoal hand-sketching quality to the scenes in these photos which is a fresh take on winter nature photos.

Weather here - about 2°C with a prospect of high pressure moving and leaving us once again at -18°C or something silly for most of January. Some snow has melted, but two days of above-zero temperatures are making very little impact, humidity is at 100% (we are were in fog, or cloud, depending on how you see it, Wednesday), the snow can't evaporate fast as the air is saturated, all it can do is melt and that is just not fast enough. Drip trays are catching water coming in through known weak points into the house. I can hear the downpipes and drains running constantly from the water off the roof and ground, but it seems to make very little difference.

On Tuesday, Shirley took this by the river using the NEX-5, first time she's used it, she hates rear screen composition but got on pretty well with and reckoned it has the best screen she has used this way:



But she's happy with a new pair of boots and some warm tights - quite a change for a woman who never wears anything (apart from socks she's been knitting for the cold weather!) except bare feet or sandals:

No snow right now but the temperature is real low and the weather forecasters did say that Istanbul is expecting at least some snow or a few days. Maybe we'll still see some white snow flakes drifting about if not enough to build that snowman... : )

Sounds exactly like 'after snow' turmoil we get when we have as much snow as the kind we see in Shirley's first shot...Must be feeling very humid in the air and very wet on the ground.

Good thinking for a pair of warm boots and tights. Lovely suede leather choice that is very smooth and clean but I personally would dread to wear them in such deep snow as yours in fear of ruining that texture irrecovarably! : ) They look far too nice for wet and messy ground conditions...

But they are very nice and stylish and I hope Shirley feels warm and comfortable in them. They certainly look so good, your pretty cat would be jealous of the leather and fur selection!

Good photos of the way NewYork looks after the blizzard. The news of the cold weather and harsh snowy conditions in North America were a continuous news item for at least a week on television and radios here. You had to endure some tough outdoors!

Well, I tried to post a reply this morning and discovered the whole forum system was broken. It took me six hours to find out exactly why - work on our server without prior notice including disconnection of the SQL databases, and with the 'status' report from the hosting company showing all OK at all times. Finally got a support ticket reply back telling me what was going on.

We've had another day of above-zero temperatures but this snow melts so slowly it has no hope of going before we get more.

Yildiz - Shirley's fashion boots are actually waterproofed (double layer, with synthetic materials not leather). She also got a pair of Hunter wellies, blue not green, with thick socks and insoles which should last another 20 years and are suitable for the horrible mud and slush we have now. The nice boots are OK for good clean snow or cold dry days!

Pako - that must have fallen all at once. We have maybe had as much snow, but in weekly deliveries of a foot or so for the last month. The most we have had in a single fall has been about 1ft, mainly it has been 4", 6", 2" extra once and light falls several times a day until this week. The big problem is the mounds of piled, hard snow blocking everything. Last January they brought in trucks and diggers, and took all the snow to the river and dumped it over the bank. This year they are very short of money and I guess they are hoping it will just melt.

We had beautiful light snows Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, but somehow I just didn't feel like taking pictures. Too bad, really, as they were some of the most picturesque snowfalls I can recall.

Now it's all gone, aided by a light rain yesterday.

Today it's already 13C (1pm) with a high of 17C predicted! And 19C tomorrow!

It will then get cold again, and I'm sure we'll have more snow before winter ends.

Those tights don't look warm enough for 2ºC in my book David, pretty, but not even close to warm enough I reckon, the boots look good though. It sure does look icy at the moment, and NY as well in Pako's shots, that's an amazing amount of snow, those cars are frozen in by the looks.
Always interesting looking at your shots DA, will there be any more snow in your area do you think?

latter part Feb/March of winter here.
