Here is one from this morning, on Lake Lavon. Pretty cold, 3° C, no wind. I've missed some great photos, gotta keep up on this thread!
Aster: Great shots of Istanbul as always. I love seeing the daily goings on in the city, they really let you get to know the place.
Birma- I'm jealous of your beautiful English countryside... If I went out for a walk in it, I doubt I'd return- until I needed food or memory cards! Great colors in that last shot.
Dusty- I love the snow shot- Ours is completely gone, but I doubt I'd want that much.
Greg- was it the wind or the rain itself that took down that branch? My biggest tree out front suffered a broken branch as well, so now I have a strap slowly pulling some upper branches together for an arboreal comb-over!

I don't know which it was exactly John, it has been a little gusty lately but trees are designed to handle that surely, I think it's the amount of water the trees soak up and the branches get much heavier than usual and then along comes a gust of wind....It used to happen up at my friends birdwatching hut in the rainforest sometimes as well. You could be sitting on the back porch in the evening when it was reasonably quiet after a heavy downpour with just the first few night birds starting to call and you'd hear an almighty cerrash somewhere, near or far, signalling a large branch had snapped off, sometimes even a whole tree would fall and you could tell the difference between the two, that's for sure.

Henry- Nice shots, I think I see the hotel that we stayed in when my family went to Hawaii in the 80's. Was one of those hotels a Sheraton back then???
Wow Greg-I've never seen that happen, but here in more temperate climes, the trees are surely different.. Luckily my tree has fared well, the branch it lost wasn't very thick at the base, so it wasn't very strong. It did leave quite a gap in the tree though, so hopefully I can coax it to grow in the right direction, without breaking it!

Yep John different climes and probably trees as well, here the rainforest has been reduced mainly to living on slopey ground foothills and mountains that isn't any use for farming, all the flat ground rainforest (well most of it) has disappeared and converted into farmland long ago. The other big thing is this is a cyclone prone area and trees get smashed by those periodically, so even though there is some really good strong timber in the rainforest and things recover and grow back pretty fast, there is always going to be some that have suffered some damage in the past and finally it catches up with them at some point.

It started cloudy today, cleared as the day went on, getting hazy again in the late afternoon. Still cold. There was an amazing sunset which I only just caught from the upstairs window of our house.

I really like this photo with the silhouetted leaves and branches against the colorful sky. I also like how you chose the dof so that the mountains in the background are oof.

I have just looked back through some of the recent posts and see lots of really good photos from everyone.

It's more summer, there in Hawaii, Henry, than any winter anyone can imaginein the Northern Hemisphere! : ))

It's more summer, there in Hawaii, Henry, than any winter anyone can imaginein the Northern Hemisphere! : ))

Lovely warm shots and great ocean water colour close to the beach.

Yildiz, it is winter here too so the temperature is about 6F or 3C lower than summer. The other big difference is that in the winter we get rainy days sometimes. Hawaii is in the northern hemisphere, about the same latitude as Mexico City and Hong Kong. I know what you mean though.
